Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: The Birth of the Ranking System, Setting Off for Sunlight Mountain

Although Si Shu didn't particularly care for such empty titles, at Ubuyashiki Mitsuya's strong insistence, he accepted the title of "Youngest Member in History." After all, with the status of an official member, certain matters would become much easier for him to handle.

After writing Si Shu's name into the official roster of the Demon Slayer Corps, Ubuyashiki's expression suddenly changed, becoming somewhat serious.

"Taking the opportunity of Si Shu officially joining the Demon Slayer Corps, there is something I would like to discuss with everyone."

Hearing this, everyone's expression grew solemn. Even Yoriichi Tsugikuni turned his gaze toward the Master. For the head of the Demon Slayer Corps to be this serious, it was bound to be a matter of great importance.

Taking a deep breath, Mitsuya spoke in a slightly hoarse voice. "I would like to take this opportunity to reform the Demon Slayer Corps."

The moment he finished speaking, the hot-tempered Wind Hashira could no longer sit still.

"Master, it is not my place to speak out of turn, but is it truly wise to suddenly reform a tradition that has stood for centuries?"

Mitsuya waved his hand, signaling for the Wind Hashira not to get agitated. He then began to lay out the arguments he had prepared beforehand. He spoke of everything from the Corps' current system and personnel allocation to logistical support for swordsmen and even their safety after retirement. Mitsuya had considered nearly every problem an organization might face. It was clear how much of his heart and soul he had poured into the Demon Slayer Corps.

After listening, the five Hashira fell into deep thought. As Mitsuya had said, times were changing, and systems could not remain stagnant forever. They exchanged glances, having already reached a consensus.

"Master, we are willing to cooperate with you on this reform." Toujurou spoke for the group. "But... what exactly is the method for this reform?"

Faced with this question, Mitsuya was momentarily at a loss. Simply identifying all these problems had already consumed most of his energy. If he had to devise concrete solutions as well, he might just die from overwork.

Just then, Si Shu suddenly spoke up.

"If there isn't a good method at the moment, I have a few suggestions."

Walking over to a nearby shelf, he took out a piece of paper and a brush. As he explained each point, he drew a corresponding image on the paper. The first thing that appeared was a pyramid-shaped diagram.

"The first point is the ranking system."

While adding to the diagram, Si Shu explained his idea. Unconsciously, the five Hashira and Ubuyashiki were drawn in by his novel concepts. According to Si Shu's plan, the ranking system of the Demon Slayer Corps could be made much more detailed. Missions that low-level, weaker swordsmen couldn't complete could be handled by the next rank up. Following this logic, the most difficult tasks would be handled by the Hashira. This would drastically reduce unnecessary waste of combat power and personnel casualties. It could even foster a competitive spirit among the members to a certain extent, increasing internal vitality.

After hearing Si Shu's idea, the room fell silent as everyone sank into contemplation. Just then, a system notification sounded in Si Shu's mind.

[Congratulations, Host. You have obtained the skill: Basic Linguistics (0/1,000).] [Linguistics: Allows you to converse better with others, making it easier to gain their trust and support. It is the best skill for becoming a leader (or a charlatan)!] [You have successfully used Linguistics to persuade Ubuyashiki Mitsuya and the five Hashira, obtaining a large number of points.] [Due to the Host's own abilities, Basic Linguistics (0/1,000) has been upgraded to Specialist Linguistics (10,000/100,000).]

After obtaining this skill, Si Shu felt that he was walking further and further down the path of the "King of Charlatans."

Once they had fully digested Si Shu's ideas, Ubuyashiki couldn't help but nod. In his eyes, this system was already perfect. The five Hashira felt the same, looking at Si Shu with a hint of envy. He had become an official member at such a young age, was incredibly powerful, and on top of that, possessed such unique insights into managing an organization. If they had been asked to come up with these things, they probably couldn't have devised a tenth of it even if they thought about it for a lifetime.

"I've decided!" Mitsuya slapped his hand on the table, his weak body filled with a sudden vigor. "From now on, the Demon Slayer Corps will adopt this plan from Si Shu! The Demon Slayer Corps will undergo a historic reform today!"

As soon as he finished speaking, the frail Mitsuya burst into a fit of coughs. For him to get so excited showed just how much he approved of and agreed with Si Shu's ideas.

"Since you are the one who designed this system," Mitsuya said after taking a sip of water to calm himself, "how do you think the ranks should be divided, Si Shu?"

"Ten ranks," Si Shu replied without hesitation. "With Kinoe at the top and Mizunoto at the bottom. Reigning above these ten ranks will be the Hashira, who serve as the pillars."

Mitsuya nodded earnestly, agreeing completely with this division. "Do you have any other ideas for other areas?"

Si Shu nodded and began to sketch on another piece of paper. Before they knew it, he and Mitsuya had been discussing for a long time. The more they talked, the more incredible Ubuyashiki found Si Shu to be. He was clearly just an eight-year-old child, yet his understanding was even more profound than his own, a man who had been in a high position for years. This made him very happy, as if he had found a dear friend despite their vast age difference.

After they reached a consensus on another point, Si Shu wrote a few large characters at the top of a piece of paper.

Demon Slayer Corps Logistical Support Division: Kakushi.

This represented the official establishment of the Kakushi.

For several days straight, Si Shu and Ubuyashiki remained in the room, discussing. They held serious and earnest discussions on every topic, both those Mitsuya had previously thought of and those he hadn't. As for the five Hashira, who were not skilled in such matters, they had already left on the second day.

After the discussions were complete, Ubuyashiki even bestowed upon the eight-year-old Si Shu the title of "Chief Strategist of the Demon Slayer Corps." As long as Si Shu lived, this title would never be given to anyone else.

Once their work was done, Mitsuya eagerly took the final plan to begin its implementation. As for Si Shu, he planned to get some well-deserved rest.

Hoo~

After a good, long sleep, Si Shu walked out of his room and suddenly noticed the sunlight outside.

"Sunlight? Nichirin Sword?"

As if remembering something, he made a fist with his right hand and smacked it into his left palm.

"Now that I'm an official member, I'll need a Nichirin Sword that is uniquely my own."

After sending a request to Ubuyashiki, Si Shu quickly received approval. Although the Corps usually had slayers choose from ore that had already been mined, members were also allowed to go and acquire the materials themselves if they wished.

Packing his luggage and tucking a wooden sword into his belt, Si Shu once again left the familiar little cottage.

This time, his destination was the source of all Nichirin Sword materials: Sunlight Mountain.
