Chapter 2 - science partners

THIRD PERSON POV

The next morning, the Sicilian sky was a painted canvas lavender streaks over blush clouds, the promise of heat clinging to the air. Birds chattered outside the villa's windows, but Cameron was already dressed, pacing her room with a nervous flutter in her stomach she hated admitting to.

Not because of the school. Not because of being new.Because of him.

Avan Kazan.

She hated how her thoughts circled back to him. That quiet boy with ink on his fingers and eyes like warm shadows. She hadn't stopped thinking about the sketch he made. Or the softness in his voice. Or the way he hadn't tried to impress her, only… see her.she left her food untouched and left hurriedly for school Her father hadn't noticed she skipped breakfast. As usual.By the time she got to class, Cameron felt like her skin didn't fit right. The hallway was busier. There were new whispers more eyes trailing her movements. Her pleated skirt felt too short, her shirt too stiff.Stopping by her locker she checked her timetable..Biology She had biology class now She entered the biology lab and immediately spotted him.Avan was already seated, sleeves rolled halfway up, his sketchpad nowhere in sight today. Instead, two pairs of latex gloves sat neatly on the desk beside him.He looked up. His gaze softened."You came."Cameron quirked her brows, hiding a smile. "Was I not supposed to?"Avan shrugged. "Most people don't come back after their first day here. Especially not Americans."She took the seat beside him. "I'm not most people."

She said smiling." Alright class settle down "Mr Dalton said as he walked in distracting them."We're going to be having our science project and I'll be grouping you guys in pairs..."Groans and giggles came from different angles as he called out the names."Cameron Sinclair "Startled she answered" yes sir"

" You'll be paired with..." He paused looking into his tablet " Avan Kazan"Avan looked up then turn to her and smirked at that Saying nothing his eyes drifted back to the instructions on the desk.

They were supposed to dissect a flower. Basic stuff. Label, diagram, compare structures. Easy enough. But the assignment took a backseat to the charged silence between them."I hate plants"Avan let out a little laugh,Their hands brushing as they reached for the scalpel.Neither of them moved away.

Cameron's Voice – First Person:

"He didn't flinch. And neither did I.Our skin touched like it was allowed to.like some old version of us had done it before.i wondered if he felt it too...that quiet electric buzz in the silence.i didn't want to speak. I wanted to exist in that exact second.Just skin. Just breath. Just closeness."

They worked well together. Too well.Every time she glanced at him, he was already looking. She blushed flustered .By the time class ended, Cameron was flushed. She stood quickly, almost knocking her chair back."I'll… see you later."Avan opened his mouth to reply...but he was interrupted."Hey," a voice said behind them, casual but firm.cameron turned ...and there he was.

Alan Kazan.

And God..he was nothing like his twin.

Identical yes but there was something...If Avan was shadow, Alan was fire. Golden skin, tousled dark hair, and a half-smile that looked like it could undo a girl's morals with one flick. His uniform shirt was untucked, two buttons loose. His eyes daring, mischievous landed on Cameron and lingered.

Blue eyes Cameron thought to herself

The only outstanding feature between them

Unlike Avan's calm forest eyes,Alan's gazes pierces, like an a storm in the ocean

A deep blue ocean."You're the new girl."interrupting her thoughts "You have a gift for the obvious."Alan laughed, slow and deep. "And you have a mouth."Avan tensed beside her. "Alan…"But Alan ignored him. He extended his hand toward her."Alan. The better Kazan twin."

"You have a twin?...weird"

"Hard to believe, right?" Alan winked. "It's the personality that separates us. I actually have one."Avan stood abruptly. "Let's go, Cam. We're late for chem."

"Cam?" Alan repeated, testing the name like it was a flavor on his tongue. "Wow. First-name basis already? Avan moves fast these days." he mocked.Cameron stepped back. "I think I'll find my own way, thanks."Alan watched her walk out smirk fading just slightly.then, under his breath:

"She's going to ruin someone."

Alan's Voice – First Person (brief flash):

"It was the way she moved...like she didn't need anyone. And that's the kind of girl who breaks hearts and doesn't stay to sweep the pieces.I'd broken girls before. But this one…

She looked like the kind who'd break me."

That afternoon, Cameron found a sketch folded between her notes.it wasn't from Avan.it was bolder, rougher. A sketch of her, sitting with a flower in her hand, but this time...naked shoulders, lips parted, eyes closed.Sensual. Not innocent. There was no name.Only one word scribbled in sharp ink:

"Curious?". She looked around the hallway, heart thudding.Who gave her this? Why did it feel like a dare? And why, did deep in her gut…Did she want to answer it?

Did she hope....

That night, in her bed, she lay beneath the sheets, restless. The Sicilian air was warm against her thighs. Her legs tangled beneath silk as her body remembered the brush of a hand that never truly touched her.

Was it Avan?

Or...a slow thought creeped Alan

Shook her head as She bit her lip.

Why was she thinking of Alan

They were twins. But they felt like opposite universes. And somehow, she was already orbiting both.

cameron's Voice – First Person (erotic reflection):

"I shouldn't have imagined it.but I did fingers brushing my hip.lips grazing the inside of my wrist.A mouth...one I hadn't tasted...against the soft place beneath my ear.

I imagined both of them.one kind. One cruel.

And in the dream, I let them ruin me."

Cameron stared at the sketch again, the light from her lamp painting shadows across her collarbone.she didn't tear it.She didn't want to lose it she tucks it into her drawer like a secret. And tossed restlessly on the bed.
