Chapter 1 - Heaven’s Gift

Mr. Weiss was the owner of a small book shop in the middle of Gotham city. He ran it together with his wife, Mrs. Weiss, but barely made a profit.

With rampant robberies and crimes happening everyday, they barely got any customers looking to buy books. It was a miracle that they hadn't been robbed yet.

Mr. Weiss let out a sigh as he glanced at his empty shop and then the stairs that lead to his personal room.

If he strained his ears, he was able to hear his wife crying to herself in their room.

They had tried for a baby and Mrs. Weiss carried it for nine months… only to give birth to a still born.

Mr. Weiss was devestated but Mrs. Weiss even more so. She blamed herself. It was not her fault.

He had to remain strong for her.

Suddenly, Mr. Weiss heard a loud crash as a window upstairs was shattered. He heard his wife let out a scream and was terrified that something happened.

Did a metahuman break into their house?

Grabbing a bat next to the counter, Mr. Weiss ran up the stairs and entered his bedroom wielding his bat like a legendary sword.

"Leave my wife alone!" He shouted as he kicked the door open and prepared to swing… only to see his wife holding a baby.

"Carl! The heavens have gifted us with a baby boy!" Exclaimed his wife as she lovingly gazed at the baby in her arms.

"Wh-what?" Muttered Mr. Weiss with a confused look.

"He has such beautiful white hair and white eyes… do you think he suffers from albinism? His skin seems awfully pale."

"Maria… where did he even come from?" Asked Mr. Weiss with a look of concern.

Mrs. Weiss pointed at a metal basket padded with soft fabric. "The boy was in there when it broke through the window."

Mr. Weiss connected the dots and stared at the baby boy with a suspicious look. "Maria… I don't think we should keep the boy. It might be dangerous-"

But Mr. Weiss was forced to stop when he saw the near insane look on his wife's face, drowning in desperation.

"He is mine. Don't take my baby away from me again. Please Carl…"

With a sigh, Mr. Weiss quietly approached Mrs. Weiss and gave her a big hug before quietly nodded.

Seeing his nod, Mrs. Weiss gave a small smile. "He is our child Carl. He is Reinhardt Weiss."
