Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: Voicemails Never Sent

The Next Morning — Delhi Skies, Ruhi's Heart

It had rained all night in Delhi.

By morning, the college lawns were soaked, and puddles reflected a gray, uncertain sky. Ruhi stood at the PG gate, holding an umbrella and her satchel — inside it, her notebook Beyond the Buzzer, and a sealed letter addressed to Rudra she still hadn't decided to give.

Her phone buzzed.

No new messages.No reply.Nothing.

She had sent a simple one the night before:

"Let's meet. Just talk. One last time."

Maybe that was the mistake — calling it "last." Maybe he thought she was done.

She wasn't.

Not yet.

📞 Meanwhile: Rudra's Room

Rudra sat on the edge of his bed, phone in hand, heart in his throat.

He had read Ruhi's message 12 times.

He had drafted responses — and deleted all of them.

He felt frozen.

For a boy who had everything — speed, reflex, strategy — he now stood paralyzed. Not by fear, but by doubt.

Doubt that he deserved her.

Doubt that her world would ever fit into his.

*"This silence is a language I never learned. He was always loud in the court. Bold in the classroom. But now, he's a ghost.

And I'm still here — shouting in whispers."*

💬 Simran and Aarav's Coffee Date

Simran sat across from Aarav at their usual corner table at Café Prism, a warm cappuccino in hand, her eyes serious.

"You knew Rudra was going to Mumbai next month, didn't you?" she asked quietly.

Aarav nodded.

"He didn't tell Ruhi."

Aarav sighed. "He was going to. But the moment kept slipping."

Simran looked away, frowning. "She wrote him a letter. It's still in her bag. She doesn't even know if she should give it."

"You think they'll end?" Aarav asked.

Simran hesitated. "I think... if one of them doesn't break the silence soon — yes."

🕊 A Walk Alone — Ruhi's Decision

Ruhi skipped her class and wandered to the basketball court. It was empty, the nets soaked, the bleachers glistening with raindrops.

She sat on the top step and pulled out her diary. The wind flipped through the pages like fingers searching for secrets.

She didn't cry. Not today.

She just wrote.

*"If you ever come back here, and I'm not waiting...

It's not because I stopped loving you.

It's because I got tired of waiting in a stormthat you wouldn't step into."*

🔥 Tanya's Final Move

Later that afternoon, Tanya cornered Rudra near the parking area.

"You don't belong with her," she said, arms crossed. "Everyone knows it. Her parents are hunting rishtas. Your family is talking about engagements with people like Devika Jain."

Rudra's jaw tightened. "Why are you even talking to me?"

She shrugged. "Because I thought maybe, just maybe, you had sense. She's a phase. She's fragile. And you'll leave."

He stepped closer, voice calm but steel-cold. "You don't get to define who she is. You don't know her."

"Oh really?" Tanya snapped. "Then where is she now?"

Rudra paused.

He didn't know.

And that's what scared him the most.

🌧 In the Rain — A Chance Encounter

Ruhi was walking back toward her PG, umbrella in hand, when the sky broke again.

Thunder rolled above, and the wind pulled violently at her umbrella, flipping it inside out.

She ran under the small shade near the main gate — and collided into someone.

Rudra.

Neither of them said anything for a second.

Both were soaked. Ruhi's hair stuck to her face; Rudra's shirt clung to his chest.

"I didn't think you'd come," she whispered.

"I was scared to," he replied.

They stood, shivering slightly, hearts racing.

"I wrote you a letter," she said, unzipping her bag.

"I don't need it," he said quickly.

She froze.

He looked into her eyes.

"Because I came to tell you myself."

❤️ Confession in the Rain

"I'm not perfect," Rudra said. "I run when I should stay. I hide when I should speak. But Ruhi—"

He stepped closer.

"I can't go to Mumbai with this in between us. I can't live with silence. I need you."

She looked away, tears mixing with the rain.

"What if my parents say no?" she whispered.

"Then we fight," he said. "Together."

She searched his face. "And if I get tired?"

"Then I'll carry the love for both of us... until you rest, and pick it back up."

That broke her.

Not in a bad way — in the way walls break to let sunlight in.

She dropped her bag. He pulled her close.

And they kissed.

In the rain.

Like a promise finally kept.

*"There are moments that rewrite everything. This one didn't ask for words.

Just lips, rain, and breath.

I kissed him like he was mine.

Because he was."*
