Every fiber of my being seemed to immediately lighten as Daphne and I continued up the steep mountain trail. We had originally debated taking the entire journey to the mountain on foot, but I insisted that we travel by car, which we had now parked at the bottom of the mountain.
Daphne assured me that she had fully recovered from giving birth to Lucian, but I was convinced that the sleep she had been losing lately because of my nightmares had slowed down her healing process considerably.
The road trip to the mountain oasis had taken a few days, which I was grateful for. The nightmares persisted even though Daphne and I slept curled up in our campsites beneath the stars every night.
Now that we were close and heading up the forested mountain, I was doing my best to have a relaxing journey, chatting with Daphne idly and listening to the sounds of the forest surrounding us.
