Chapter 31 - Chapter 31: Goblin Slayer

The goblins' roars echoed through the arena.

Dozens of goblins surged toward Kane and Kreya at the edge of the arena, but were blocked by an invisible wall as they approached.

Crowding by the transparent wall, they finally found a gap.

But the gap was quite small, and with goblins pushing from behind, the ones in front stumbled and squeezed through.

The narrow gap allowed only 1.2 goblins to squeeze in and hit Kreya inside.

Kane molded a semicircle of transparent putty at the arena's edge, leaving only a narrow opening.

With the simplistic wisdom of dungeon monsters, they move if there's a path, and smash if there's none.

With the front not completely blocked, they inevitably squeezed toward the sole opening.

Then, Kreya mechanically swung the Wolf Fang Club within the gap, systematically knocking out the goblins at the entrance.

The goblins knocked out made way for those behind, repeating the cycle.

Meanwhile, Kane shot at distant sentinels from a transparent platform one meter high.

The sentinels' arrows were blocked mid-air.

This resolved the dilemma of combat overload, with enemies overwhelming them in numbers, clearing the threat from all directions.

Seeing goblin centurions trying to cut in line, Kane kindly arranged them using Spider Silk.

Everyone has their turn to be knocked out; don't rush, come one by one.

As for whether they could get back up after being knocked out, that was no longer his concern.

With such efficient clearing, this wave was quickly dealt with.

This rapid monster-clearing not only sped up the process but also reduced the risk of injury.

The only downside, or perhaps the issue,

was the significant Magic Power consumption on Kane's part; his Magic Power might not last until the final wave, but fortunately there were blue potions.

In the interval, he recovered his Physical Strength.

Then awaited the next wave, resuming the mechanical monster-slaying.

This assembly line process soon left only the final wave.

Kane's Magic Power was mostly depleted, but his Physical Strength was still preserved well.

Meanwhile, Kreya was in the opposite situation.

Watching the last grains of sand fall from the Crystal Hourglass in the sky.

Kane couldn't help but remind, "Kreya, it's the last wave, be careful."

Kreya shook her arm, already sore from swinging, and nodded firmly.

Dim Magic Power gathered and solidified.

The monster count for the last wave was 100!

A goblin army consisting of 60 soldiers, 20 sentinels, 15 thieves, and 5 centurions.

Seeing so many goblins, Kane directly dispelled the semicircle wall.

"Looks like we'll have to fight head-on."

Such a wall was useless now; with so many goblins trampling over one another, they'd still squeeze in, making Kane and Kreya the ones in danger.

They could only maneuver and pull them away.

Kreya understood Kane's intent as soon as the walls around her vanished.

"I'll hold these goblin soldiers; leave the sentinels at the back to you."

Nodding, Kane downed a bottle of blue potion.

Still tasted like watermelon.

Kreya also drank a Physical Potion.

"Lion's Heart, Armor Up."

She donned the Lion's Heavy Armor previously used during sparring with Kane.

Yet that wasn't the end.

"Father's Glory."

With a call, a massive War Axe was grasped in her hands.

The weighty War Axe seemed more apt to crush than slice.

Kreya hefted the giant axe, charging into the monstrous crowd.

Kane first launched webs at the goblins, restricting their movements to lessen Kreya's initial pressure.

He then leapt into the air, using his shoes' skills for a double jump, then swung Spider Silk to propel himself toward the back of the monster horde.

In mid-air, he flung several throwing knives, taking out several unlucky sentinels.

Upon landing, he conjured a Giant Hammer and smashed into the goblin sentinels.

The sentinel at the impact point turned into a pancake, while the surrounding goblins were blasted away.

The dust stirred by the impact billowed around.

Through the dust, Kane used Eagle Eye, continuously shaping and throwing short knives at nearby sentinels.

Once the dust cleared, the surrounding sentinels and some goblin thieves attempting surprise attacks lay in pools of blood, their wounds still spurting fresh blood.

Turning his gaze to the other side,

there was Kreya in Heavy Armor, wielding her War Axe.

Pushing through goblin crowds, carving through any that dared block her path into chunks.

The centurions couldn't keep pace with her; their simple combat wisdom kept them disorganized, unable to coordinate a siege.

They could only blindly chase Kreya and fall prey to her next charge.

From previous battles, Kreya already knew these monsters lacked intelligence, and straightforward tactics proved highly effective.

The goblin thieves lurking in the shadows for a sneak attack were picked out one by one by Kreya's keen instincts, then hacked away.

When Kane finished clearing the sentinels to provide support, the ground was strewn with goblin fragments.

Only 5 centurions and over a dozen soldiers still pursued behind Kreya.

Kane instantly shot Spider Silk to truss up the legs of 3 goblin centurions, then bent his bow to shoot at one of the remaining centurions.

Three fully drawn arrows pierced through the head and neck of the goblin centurion instantaneously.

He fell mid-run, kicking up another cloud of dust.

Seeing Kane coming to her aid, Kreya turned directly to face the last centurion.

Swinging the War Axe, she sliced away the surrounding goblin soldiers.

With all her might, she swung at the goblin centurion, who raised his great sword to fend off the blow.

This axe was part of Kreya's ensemble, empowered by her charge and full body strength.

With her furious shout, the goblin centurion was cleaved apart, blade and all, as foul blood sprayed everywhere.

She then approached the goblin centurions Kane had tripped, dispatching them one by one.

Meanwhile, Kane, utilizing Eagle Eye, picked off the goblin thieves still foolishly seeking chances in the shadows.

With the fall of the last thief.

The hourglass reversed, signaling the end of the match.

Thunderous applause resounded from the stands; with Kreya's involvement, the bloodshed visibly intensified.

Roaring cheers were noticeably more numerous.

Severed limbs and fragments turned to sand, thunderous cheers became golden rays.

The beams from the sky converged towards the center of the arena.

Now, it was time for the thrilling treasure-opening phase.

As the light faded, the chest in the center revealed its real form.

Still made of iron, with simple engravings, it appeared slightly more ornate than the first level.

The two approached the chest.

Kane looked at Kreya and suddenly asked, "You haven't tried it yet, have you? The feel of opening a chest."

"Hmm," Kreya nodded firmly.

"Give it a try; maybe you'll have better luck."

Kreya sat down, placed her hand on the chest, visibly excited.

Gently lifted it.

The chest vanished with the breeze, leaving Kreya momentarily at a loss.

"It's alright, the chest disappears when opened; see what's inside?"

Four glowing items lay on the ground.
