"That is it. Now are there any other questions regarding science or more specifically chemistry?" Felicia asked as she looked at the students of various ages. She was just finishing up a tutoring lesson. After a few moments she nodded, "very well then-"
Jean suddenly came barging into the room, "fantastic you are done Felicia. Now come with me. I need your help, I need a helpless civilian." Jean walked up and began pulling Felicia along. It was the first time she saw the red head today. Apparently she was way too busy with all of her new responsibilities.
"Okay, I suppose I can play at being helpless. Do I need to be anything else?" Felicia asked with a note of humor.
Jean pulled her to the elevator and pressed the down button. It then began descending to the lower levels. "Haha… no. At least I do not think so. I just need a real person that they can rescue from a fake burning building."
"Okay then, but after we are going to talk. I need to talk to you about something serious." Felicia told her getting a confused look from Jean. But Felicia refused to say anything more.
Once the elevator arrived on a lower floor Jean pulled Felicia out and to the danger room. The danger room is a holographic room with hard-light constructs and visuals that can simulate various conditions for training. But those simulations could be modified to be safer. It was honestly the best method for training wannabe heroes.
The door opened to a basic simulation that was still building. But the skeleton of an apartment building was the clear centerpiece. Jean pulled her near the building and stepped back. Felicia blinked in confusion until she began levitating. Quickly putting together that Jean was using her telekinesis to move her through the air.
Felicia relaxed as she was moved into the top floor and gently placed on the ground. As she landed she looked around and watched as the simulation continued filling in. The building began 'burning' around her.
She walked around the room for a few moments nodding at the realistic simulation. After a few moments it began turning into an actual inferno as she could feel the heat. It was not harmful but it was enough that it would make things feel realistic.
She looked out of the window and saw the entire room had become a miniature city with her building being the only one on 'fire'. It lacked realism in the way that there would already be likely many lookie-lous and fire trucks.
But she watched as The door opened and a group of students came running in. Dressed in very basic versions of the X-Men outfits she had seen before. Seems this was the young heroes that Jean was training.
—----------------------
"Okay class, your goal is to rescue the person in the burning building." Jean spoke over their communication pieces. Rogue itched her ear, still unfamiliar with the feeling of the device. She looked at the others and saw them looking around as well.
"Umm… then I suppose we should find the building first." Bobby Drake pointed out. All week they had been taking theoretical classes. Today was the first class where they had physical operations. It seemed honestly more like they were feeling out the students rather than training them so far.
"Or you could look for the smoke," Illyana pointed out as she literally pointed to a plume of smoke. "Come on!"
The others quickly followed after her, "What do we do once we get there?" Jubilee asked as jogged with them.
"We go and rescue the people in the fire. It is as simple as that." Daniel answered her as he started calculating situations and solutions that would best utilize the team's skills.
They arrived at the building that was on fire only moments later. It is a five story apartment building. That was mostly boarded up. The fire escape on the side of the building had already fallen apart and was severely damaged.
"This looks like a condemned building. We need to find an entry point." Daniel pointed out.
"No, we need to first find where the person we need to rescue is." Illyana responded with a slight Russian accent.
"We could try-" Bobby started but was interrupted by Daniel.
"Well I cannot even sense a person in the building. It would probably be best to first find them. But we cannot do that without entering the building." Daniel argued. Illyana snarled as she got ready to respond.
But before she got a chance to respond a wall of the building fell down further destabilizing the building. Cracks appeared throughout the building. Illyana groaned, "fine then we need Kitty to start from the bottom while someone else starts from the top."
Kitty gave two nervous thumbs up before skipping through the wall, "going in!"
Sam on the other hand immediately volunteered, "I will go in from the top." He suddenly propelled himself upwards. "Woah Woah Woah!" He suddenly veered off course and crashed through a wall on the top floor. He groaned in pain and looked around and saw Felicia, "Miss Hardy?" Then he remembered, "oh! Hey Miss Hardy is on the top floor of the building-"
There was a loud cracking throughout the building. They could both clearly hear it and see it. Sam had unknowingly completely destabilized the building. Felicia stayed calm as the floor gave out beneath them and they fell through the floor.
Sam screamed in surprise, with a remarkably girlish scream while Felicia just calmly yelled a bit, "oh nooo." She yelled in sarcasm. Above them a disk appeared and so did Illyana, but she yelped in surprise as she fell to the ground. Right into Felicia's arms who caught her.
"You know, you kids are supposed to be rescuing me. Not the other way around." Felicia pointed out with a slight chuckle as she set Illyana down.
"Umm… yeah." Kitty chuckled as well as she pulled herself through the floor. "There is no safe way down through the building. All of the staircases have been destroyed, I have been literally climbing through walls as they feel apart. It will not be long before this building completely falls apart." Kitty was able to quickly analyze and make her report.
"Then we need to get out of here. Give me a moment to concentrate so I can safely teleport us to-" Illyana was interrupted as the building suddenly tilted and they all started sliding out of the building.
"Weee…" Felicia silently yelled like a kid on a slide as the wall in front of them crumbled and they flew off the fourth floor. Now they were really in trouble. The last four clearly looked caught off guard as the rest of their squad fell from the sky.
Sam suddenly erupted and shot off to land on the edge of the building opposite the collapsing one. Successfully saving himself in the process. Illyana in a panic teleported into limbo for safety. Successfully saving herself in the process. Kitty phased through the ground avoiding the fall and the collapsing building. But before the building could fall on the last four the building and entire simulation froze.
"Done!" Jean walked over with Storm following behind her. She waited a moment as Sam climbed off the building, Kitty came back through the floor, and Illyana came back through a portal. "Now class, can any of you tell me what you think went wrong?"
Bobby went to raise his hand but Daniel jumped the gun. "We failed to save the person that we were supposed to. Umm where did Miss Hardy go?" He asked as he suddenly realized he could not see her.
Jean grinned and looked up, the students followed her gaze and saw Felicia sitting on a lamppost swinging her legs. "Hey!"
"That is part of the overall issue but the list of this team's failures is already a bit long. So instead of making you all guess I suppose I will start by telling you the most important failings this time around." Jean answered as a chair and class room suddenly appeared while the entire city disappeared.
Felicia quietly landed on her feet and leaned against the wall.
"Communication, your team failed to clearly communicate and operate as a team. You failed to listen to all member's opinions when they had them. You did not wait for orders or clearly express orders." Jean explained.
Storm stepped forward, "for instance Bobby what did you want to do when you saw the building?" They had clearly seen Bobby trying to talk but he kept getting talked over.
"Well, for one I planned to put out the fire with my ice abilities." Bobby generated a block of ice in his hand. "I also would have built artificial ice to support the failing structure, but I would have no clue where to put them."
"I would have known," Daniel pointed out. "I suppose we should have started coming up with a plan before we even got to the building."
"Probably, which brings me to my next point." Jean nodded, "time, you wasted too much time arguing and trying to come up with a solution. For every possible situation you need to be prepared, preferably ahead of time."
"Which is what the theoretical classes are for. They are as important, if not more important than the training missions." Storm began explaining. Before she went into full lecture mode. Felicia listened for only another minute before walking out. Seems the next generation of X-Men is still in the training phase and very rough around the edges.
