Chapter 79 - Chapter 79 - Cindy, Gwen, and Helen

"Gwen, someone is here to see you!" Gwen's mother called from the front room. Gwen opened her bedroom to see one of the interns from the Baxter Building. She was the young woman who actually looked a year younger than her. But the moment their eyes met her special sixth sense went off.

Not in warning but in some type of kinship. She could instinctively tell that they were the same just like that time when she was at the Baxter Building. She had the same feeling when she saw Peter Parker and this intern, Cindy Moon.

Gwen suddenly realized she kept them waiting for a minute too long. "Umm… yeah come on in." She opened her door for her. She might as well figure out what she was here for. When Cindy entered her room she closed her door.

Cindy looked around nervously until she spotted the terrarium and blinked, "you found yours too?" She then walked right to it and looked at the spider.

Gwen frowned, "mine. What do you mean?" Trying to feign ignorance that she was talking about the spiders.

Cindy looked at Gwen and smiled, double checking that no one was looking before she set down her bag and then jumped onto the roof. Then she stuck there holding onto the roof using her palm. Smiling down at Gwen.

"You're… like-" Gwen then understood, she was not the only one that had that weird sense. Gwen jumped off a chair and stood on the roof as well, showing off her own powers. "Okay, so we both have powers. But why did you come to me?"

"Well actually-" Cindy stopped mid sentence as the door suddenly swung open with a plate of snacks being carried in by Gwen's mother.

"Hey kids- What the hell!" Helen Stacy yelled in surprise as she noticed the two teenagers on her roof. One of which, Gwen was so caught off guard she fell. Helen walked forward shoving the snack tray onto Gwen's desk. "Honey, were you on the ceiling?"

"Um, no?" Gwen tried with a shrug getting a deadpan look from Helen. It only took a glare from her for a minute for Gwen to fold. "Yes…"

"Okay…" Helen looked up at Cindy who was still hanging from the roof. Hoping she had forgotten, "get down off my roof." Cindy dropped to the ground and was wary of what Helen would say next. "Now you have two hours before your father comes home so explain and quickly," She then looked directly at Cindy, "you as well."

Once they were down on the floor standing they both explained their stories. While Helen listened she was intrigued. Looking at the spider she seemed to have several ideas but was quickly distracted by one in particular.

"Okay… first question," Helen looked between the girls who were now nervously sitting on the bed while she sat in her daughter's computer chair with her arms crossed. "Do you two plan to go around in costumes like that other one?" They had left out that they both thought Peter was Spider-Man, some type of unspoken agreement they made between them.

"Yes" "No" They both answered at the same time. Gwen answered 'no' while Cindy answered 'yes'. They both immediately exchanged looks of surprise.

"Why not? Our powers could really help people, like Spider-Man is doing." Cindy asked in surprise. Now that she wanted to use her powers to help, she was all-in.

"Because I have other priorities, I am about to graduate high school and get into a college. Then I have classes to worry about and- and-" Gwen tried her best not to glance at her mother as she spoke but she failed.

Helen audibly sighed causing them both to turn to her. "Well whether you decide to go around doing heroics or not I know two things. One, you need to train not just if you want to go around being a hero but also so you know your limits. The second thing is," Helen smiled as Gwen could almost swear her eyes lit up, just like every other time she had seen her mother was inspired. "You need outfits to hide your identities, and to protect you."

Gwen smiled, "well what do you think we should do first?" Her mother always seemed to get excited like this when she found a new project.

Helen seemed to think for a moment before she remembered something. She walked over to the kitchen and opened the trash pulling out a pamphlet. She walked over to the girls as she looked through it. "Actually we got an offer for a trial membership at this new and supposedly state-of-the-art gym."

"Convenient." Cindy grinned as Gwen's mother seemed more into it then Gwen herself.

"Okay that solves one problem but how are we going to make suits?" Gwen asked, submitting herself to what she thinks is a whim of her mother.

"Well I will draw up several designs but let's worry about actually making them after you are trained enough to defend yourself. I will not let either of you go out with at least the basics." Helen declared as she dialed a number on the pamphlet.

Robert Paine had to refrain from asking questions in the open. It only took him about ten minutes for him to realize that both teenage girls are enhanced in some way. He looked over at the sickly women that had accompanied them.

He calmly walked over to the woman while watching the teenagers practice the moves that he showed them. She glanced at him in confusion, "Um.. miss we do have specific training for individuals that have been enhanced."

The woman's eyes widened in surprise, "I do not know what-"

"I am going to stop you right there. I have met and trained several enhanced people throughout my life. So I do know how to keep a secret." Robert explained as he looked at the teenagers again, already making calculations for the kind of training they need.

"Okay, but they only need to know how to defend themselves and their limits." Helen explained as she nervously glanced at the old man.

"That should only take a few months. Do you want to have them train by themselves or would you prefer to have them trained during off-hours?" Robert pulled out his phone and began typing something.

Helen seemed to think for a few minutes, "By off-hours I assume you mean when the gym is closed and there are no other people here?"

"Correct," Robert nodded as he finished writing on his phone. "There are not many other people that could show up. But I will suggest it anyway because they tend to know to keep their mouth shut."

Helen frowned, "how much will it cost?"

"Not much," Robert explained, "This is honestly my retirement so it won't be free but it will not be that costly. If they need gear or a job I can help them with that as well, depending on what type of work."

Helen raised an eyebrow, "why were we given a free trial?"

"Honestly I did not pick who got one," Robert shrugged, "Another gym goer created the list, actually sometime next week I am supposed to get a lot more members since he is having his employees workout here while his facilities are being built."

Helen frowned, "was there any particular reason we were picked do you think?"

"Likely because of the teens' enhanced physiques. He is big on knowing everything that is going on in this city. Likely all the secret identities of heroes received a pamphlet." Helen looked at Robert in surprise, "he goes over the top like that."

"Okay, then what days do you think you can train them?" Helen asked, already making a plan and excuses to distract her husband.

"Hmmm…"
