Last night, Dylan had already gone to bed by the time Olivia returned from dinner. The room had been dim and quiet, thick and lonely.
When she woke up the next morning, the space beside her was cold and untouched. He hadn't returned to bed.
She sat up slowly, eyes scanning the room. There was no trace of his scent, his distinct perfume that usually clung to the air whenever he left the room in a hurry. That absence confirmed what she knew: he was still somewhere in the house.
But not with her.
She pulled the blanket closer around her shoulders. Something inside her twisted, was she disturbing him? Or was it Ryker's health weighing on his mind? Ryker was like a father to him, the only true family he had besides Lily. Maybe that was why he was distant. Maybe it had nothing to do with her, even if her heart kept whispering otherwise.
Still, she was doubtful.
She moved to the kitchen and brewed his coffee, black, no sugar, just the way he liked it. A small gesture.
