Chapter 252 - Ch 252 : Tsunade's Day 1

In the evening, Tsunade dragged her exhausted body back home.

She hadn't done much physically demanding work, yet she felt mentally drained.

Shizune was in the kitchen preparing dinner.

Seeing Tsunade return, she greeted her with a bright smile and asked,

"Lady Tsunade, how was your first day at the new job?"

She had been out all day and didn't know what had happened, assuming everything had been resolved smoothly.

Tsunade sat at the entrance, rubbing her ankles, sore from wearing high heels for so long.

Hearing Shizune's question, she merely responded with a flat "Mm."

Shizune found Tsunade's attitude odd.

"Lady Tsunade?"

Tsunade carelessly tossed her high heels aside, her stocking-clad feet pressing against the wooden floor as she made her way to the sofa, where she collapsed.

Seeing this, Shizune tidied up her shoes and said, "Dinner will be ready soon. You should take a bath first."

"Mm..."

Another lifeless response.

Shizune wondered if the work of a Hokage's assistant was really that exhausting, then returned to the kitchen.

Lying on the sofa, Tsunade's mind kept replaying everything that had happened that day.

She calmed down, finding it hard to believe she had actually done those things.

Had she really lost her mind?

Even if she needed to gather money, there had to be other ways…

The aroma of food drifted from the kitchen, stirring her appetite—she hadn't eaten lunch.

Thinking about tomorrow's work continuing, Tsunade felt a strong sense of resistance.

Many people had given her strange looks today, as if questioning why the great Tsunade had become the Hokage's assistant.

"Lady Tsunade, hurry up and take a bath!" Shizune's voice called from the kitchen.

"…Got it."

At the dinner table, Shizune asked again how Tsunade's new job was.

"It's alright, I guess." Tsunade replied vaguely, focusing on her meal.

But Shizune started talking about how generous the Hokage was for giving them this opportunity—after all, what kind of job could earn them fifty million ryo?

Tsunade's hand paused mid-bite. After a moment of silence, she asked, "Shizune… don't you think it's strange for me to be the Hokage's assistant?"

Shizune tilted her head. "Huh? Is that how you see it, Lady Tsunade?"

She thought for a moment before adding, "For someone like you, with your status, you don't really need to take an assistant job. But since it's Lord Hokage's assistant, isn't that different?"

Tsunade frowned. "What's so different about it? An assistant is still an assistant."

And more importantly, the Hokage was someone she strongly disliked.

To her, working as the Hokage's assistant was worse than being a low-ranking hospital clerk's assistant.

What she resented the most was that the job wasn't even an administrative or clerical role—it was more like a servant's work.

Tsunade asked Shizune again, "What do you think of the Hokage as a person?"

Shizune knew that Tsunade didn't like the Hokage, which made it difficult for her to answer.

In her impression, Lord Hokage wasn't a particularly bad person.

Besides, whenever she heard people talk about him, it was mostly words of praise and respect.

Tsunade sighed. "Forget it, you don't have to say anything."

Anyway, things had already come this far—she just needed to endure the remaining time.

...........

The next day

Tsunade didn't dare to be late again.

She got up early, dressed, and stood before the mirror.

The reflection showed her in a black professional outfit, making her look completely different from before.

Gone was her usual carefree and casual demeanor; instead, she exuded a more mature and refined elegance.

If she added a bit of light makeup, it would probably be perfect.

She arrived at the Hokage's office and saw that only Samui was there, cleaning the room.

"Where is… Lord Hokage?"

"He hasn't arrived yet."

"Oh…."

Tsunade muttered to herself, "I'm already here, but that guy is still not? How lazy."

Samui turned to her and said, "Cleaning duties are your responsibility. From now on, remember to tidy up before you leave at night."

"…I got it."

Samui had already explained many of these tasks when she introduced Tsunade to Lord Hokage assistant's duties, but Tsunade hadn't paid much attention at the time.

"Come with me."

Samui led Tsunade into the resting room.

"Lord Hokage will arrive later. I'll first teach you some ways to serve him."

Hearing this, Tsunade was momentarily stunned as she watched Samui sit on the bed.

Serve…

.........

Half an hour later Makoto arrived.

As always, he wore a simple black outfit—sometimes a loose black kimono.

The white Hokage robe that past Hokages wore had never been seen on him.

Even on formal occasions, he only wore a modified black version of the Hokage robe.

Although he came from the Hyuga clan, which traditionally wore white, he always dressed in black, making him stand out.

This even started a trend, especially among young Hyuga ninjas, who began imitating the Hokage's preference for black clothing.

At that moment, Tsunade walked out of the resting room, carrying tea.

She quietly placed it on the desk without disturbing him.

Then, she stood silently to the side and watched as the Hokage began his work for the day.

People from various departments came and went, and ninja returning from missions sought his approval on different matters.

Over time, Tsunade became numb to the surprised glances directed at her.

She simply did the tasks Samui had assigned her without saying a word.

Near noon, she left the Hokage's office and headed to Samui's house.

The Hokage didn't like cold bento, so lunch was always prepared by Mabui, packed into a food container, and delivered to the Hokage's office.

"Are you… Lady Tsunade?" Mabui looked surprised when she saw Tsunade at the door, but then she smiled.

"Mm." Tsunade responded calmly, briefly scanning the pretty girl with darker skin.

She was well aware of the three female prisoners from Kumogakure.

Aside from Samui and Mabui, the other person in this household was the Nibi Jinchuriki.

Tsunade inwardly scoffed—the Hokage sure knows how to enjoy himself.

"This is the lunch prepared for Lord Hokage, as well as for you and Samui."

Tsunade paused. "For me?"

Mabui smiled. "Samui asked me to prepare it."

Tsunade took the food container, hesitating on whether she should say thank you.

She had always regarded these women as part of the Hokage's inner circle and never showed them a pleasant attitude.

If she thought about it carefully, these women were originally prisoners left in Konoha—they probably experienced a lot of things beyond their control.

But that thought only flashed through her mind for a moment.

Her hesitation didn't last long before Mabui smiled and said, "You've worked hard."

"…Mm."

Tsunade carried the food container to the door.

In the end, saying "thank you" remained just a thought in her mind—those two words never even reached her lips.

"I'll just say it tomorrow..."

With that thought, Tsunade left.

When she returned to the Hokage's office, Makoto was still busy working, so Samui invited her to have lunch together.

The food Mabui had prepared looked exquisite, and to Tsunade's surprise, it tasted even better—even better than Shizune's cooking.

After taking a few bites, she thought to herself, No wonder the Hokage enjoys eating her food so much.

Samui explained, "The food Mabui makes for me is different from what she prepares for Lord Hokage. She cooks according to our individual preferences. Since she doesn't know your tastes yet, she made a variety of dishes today. When you see her tomorrow, you can tell her what you like. As long as it's a common dish, she can make it."

"…Alright."

Tsunade suddenly regretted not saying thank you to that girl.
