"What a pleasant August visitor you are!" Elizabeth exclaimed as she set down a chilled glass of juice in front of Zara and took the seat across from her in the living room.
"Thanks, Mom," Zara muttered, taking a sip.
"So, how are my grandchildren?" Elizabeth asked, eyes lighting up with curiosity.
"They're fine," Zara replied absentmindedly. "Where did you say Dad was again?"
"I said he went golfing with some friends," Elizabeth said, giving her a light scolding look. "Why didn't you just call him before coming?"
"He's supposed to be retired, but he's busier than I am," Zara grumbled, clearly frustrated.
"I can't wait for the holidays. I'm going to keep the kids here and spoil them rotten," Elizabeth said excitedly.
Just then, the faint sound of a car horn echoed outside.
"Thank God, he's finally here!" Zara exclaimed, springing to her feet and heading for the door.
Elizabeth frowned. "Oh really? You can't even sit and have a proper conversation with me now?"
