Christian's jaw tightened as Ashley spoke.
"That's up to Mr. Harrington. We're only authorized to retrieve the child for testing, not escort visitors into his home," Officer Blake said, breaking the silence.
They all turned to Christian, watching him closely. A heavy weight settled in his chest. Ashley looked at him, waiting. Lorenzo looked tense, like he was barely holding himself back from pushing Christian aside so Ashley could do what she wanted.
Ten minutes. Christian didn't want to waste a single second arguing about something so small. Honestly, he didn't want to give the officers any more reasons to think badly of him. Maybe this would even help Jennifer feel less scared when they finally took her away.
