His voice made her stomach drop. Kara bit back a curse. "I'm so sorry, Cole. I—I have no excuse."
She hesitated before raising her head, her heart sinking at the disappointment in his piercing blue eyes.
"You could've called, texted, something. I waited for you all night," he said, his tone tight. "And for the past week, you didn't even bother to talk to me."
"I didn't know what to say," she admitted, rubbing her forehead. "What can I do to make it up to you?"
As she spoke, her gaze wandered to Bree, who had just sauntered over to an annoyed-looking Rox. Bree slid onto Rox's lap like she belonged there, while he barely seemed to notice, busy chatting with Sila and Gen.
Kara's grip tightened around her fork, the sharp edge pressing painfully into her palm. Bree was trying hard—too hard—to get Rox's attention, leaning in, her laughter loud and deliberate.
