Chapter 53 - Chapter 53: World’s Top Vault! Just That Easy!

The sudden voice behind him made Harrison's hair stand on end. He spun around, trying to grab whoever was there, but caught nothing but air.

Letting an enemy get behind you—that was the gravest mistake for a special agent, a mistake that could cost your life.

Harrison knew it too well. If Zhang Yang had been out for blood, he'd already be dead.

But Zhang Yang wasn't after his life—he only wanted his ID badge.

"Kaitō Kid, come back with me! I promise nothing will happen to you!"

Harrison shouted into the smoke.

But Zhang Yang had already jumped down from the floor above, not giving him the time of day.

Kameda and Itō Itsuki rushed up. As soon as they saw the thick smoke, they knew Kaitō Kid had been there.

"Baka yarō! Kaitō Kid!"

Kameda charged into the smoke, furious.

Itō Itsuki shut his eyes, focusing on the sounds within the haze. He quickly confirmed only Harrison, one other agent, and now Kameda were inside.

As a true chūnin-level ninja, Itō's hearing wasn't exaggerated like Zhang Yang's, but within close range, it was sharp.

They had risked life and limb in that high-speed chase for one thing only—catching Kaitō Kid.

There was no way they'd give up now. They started combing the building inch by inch.

But by now, Zhang Yang had already left the hospital. He jumped into a car parked by the roadside and headed straight back to Ed Gold Vault.

Now disguised perfectly as Harrison, with the stolen ID badge hanging around his neck, Zhang Yang was Harrison.

The crazy car chase had drawn even more spectators back to Ed Gold Vault.

The local police were doing their best to control the crowd.

"Whoa, did someone just rob Ed Gold Vault?"

"Ha! First time it's ever been robbed. Kaitō Kid really is a legend!"

"Too bad we didn't get to see the fireworks with our own eyes."

Right then, Zhang Yang drove through the crowd and pulled up at Ed Gold Vault.

A wave of gasps rippled through the onlookers.

"Harrison? Why's he back alone?"

"Did they already catch Kaitō Kid?"

"No way! Bet Kaitō Kid slipped away again!"

Wearing Albert's issued ID badge, Zhang Yang swiped his way in and headed straight inside Ed Gold Vault.

Albert was on the second floor in the office area when his radio crackled.

"Mr. Albert, Harrison has returned!"

Zhang Yang walked up to him, holding the fake black-green sword he had made.

It wasn't perfect, far from convincing, but with so many items stored in the vault, Albert couldn't possibly remember every detail, let alone the specifics of each piece.

"Mr. Albert, is your vault security really that tight?"

Albert's pupils contracted the moment he saw the sword, stunned.

"Director Harrison, Kaitō Kid stole this?"

Just as Zhang Yang thought, Albert couldn't tell if it was real or fake.

But Albert couldn't accept that Kaitō Kid could have broken into the vault and walked away with something.

"No! That's impossible!"

"How could Kaitō Kid have entered the vault? And without us noticing a thing?"

Zhang Yang gave himself a reason to get into the vault.

"Mr. Albert, that's exactly why we need to check how he managed to take the sword!"

"He got away during the capture attempt."

"If we don't find the flaw, he'll just sneak in again like it's nothing!"

Albert hesitated. According to the rules, only clients and designated staff were allowed in the vault storage area.

But personally, he thought Zhang Yang's reasoning made sense. If they didn't find the flaw, Kaitō Kid could easily sneak in again.

And this time they managed to get the item back, but next time? Maybe not.

"Alright."

Albert reluctantly agreed, deciding to make an exception.

"But Director Harrison, I'll take you in to investigate, and I must ask you to follow our vault's rules. Without permission, you are not allowed to touch any item inside."

Now that's what you call professional.

Zhang Yang wasn't interested in anything else. As long as he could get inside, everything would go smoothly.

Albert checked the location of Emperor Qin Shi Huang's sword.

"Director Harrison, the sword should be in Vault C on the fourth floor."

With that, Albert led Zhang Yang upstairs.

When Zhang Yang reached the fourth floor of Ed Gold Vault, everything inside was exactly as he had imagined.

From the outside of the building, you could tell there were no windows on the upper floors.

So Zhang Yang figured the inside must be a tightly sealed vault—and he was absolutely right.

"Ed Gold Vault really deserves its place as one of Britain's top three vaults. This must be the first time it's ever been robbed, huh?"

No one in their right mind would try robbing Ed Gold Vault.

Well, except Zhang Yang, of course.

Albert stopped at Vault C's door. The first security gate required both his ID badge and fingerprint verification.

The heavy metal door slowly opened, and Albert led Zhang Yang inside.

Ahead was a five to six-meter-long hallway, but it wasn't just an ordinary corridor—it was loaded with tech.

"Director Harrison, this hallway is equipped with laser infrared scanners. If we hadn't passed the first gate's verification, the alarm would've gone off immediately."

"This is also the only way into Vault C."

At the end of the hallway, another massive vault door stood before them.

It had two large mechanical locks, one at the top and one at the bottom. As Zhang Yang approached the door, he felt a strong electric field coming from it.

"Mr. Albert, is there electricity running through this?"

The electromagnetic field wasn't obvious, but thanks to Zhang Yang's Enhanced Senses, he could feel it clearly.

Albert looked genuinely surprised.

"Director Harrison, how did you know?"

"The current only disables after a successful iris scan. The voltage on that door is enough to knock someone out!"

Brutal.

The vault door was electrified and needed iris verification to disarm.

"Beep beep—"

The machine confirmed the scan with a success tone.

Albert placed his hand on the lock and began turning the mechanical dials.

Click.

Albert pulled open the door, revealing the real vault inside.

Without Albert, this place would've been nearly impossible to break into.

Zhang Yang asked curiously, "Mr. Albert, are there any more security measures inside the vault?"

Albert shook his head without hesitation, brows furrowed.

"Nothing inside."

"But I'm still shocked. How the hell did Kaitō Kid get in here?"

He looked around, hoping to find any clue.

Hearing that, Zhang Yang felt completely at ease.

Albert stepped inside, and based on the catalog numbers, quickly located the sword of Emperor Qin Shi Huang.
