AT THE SAME TIME
SELENE'S POINT OF VIEW:
The room was quiet save for the soft ticking of the healer's wall clock and the rhythmic sound of Xavier's breathing. He had fallen back asleep, nestled against the worn linen pillows Adrian had fluffed and adjusted at least three times in the last ten minutes. I watched from the edge of the bed, fingers steepled beneath my chin, studying the blond alpha before me.
Adrian didn't fidget. He didn't posture. He simply remained there, beside Xavier, a steady presence like stone warmed by sun.
"He trusts you." I murmured, voice low.
Adrian's green eyes flicked to me, but he didn't smile.
"He shouldn't."Adrian admitted.
That caught me off guard.
"Why?"I asked.
"Because he's been hurt. Lied to. Dragged around like a prize instead of treated like a person." His voice was calm, but there was steel buried deep inside it. "And people like that… they stop believing in soft things."
I tilted my head.
"But he believes in you."I said.
