Chapter 23 - Awaiting her response

The one-day holiday was over, and the employees of the journal returned to work. Vicky's anxiety grew as he awaited Mirabel's response to their blissful conversation. He wondered how she would react, hoping she would confess her love. These thoughts kept flying through his mind as he boarded the bus to work.

On reaching the office, he greeted Lucy at the reception, who nodded at him. He smiled and walked up to her. "Don't tell me you're still annoyed with me..." Vicky asked, trying to lighten the mood. Lucy looked up, slightly raising her head above the computer screen. "No, not at all... we're cool," she said, her voice neutral.

Vicky smiled, relieved. "Okay, I'm happy that we're cool..." he replied, heading to his office. Lucy watched him leave, her heart aching with unrequited love. She wished Vicky could love her too, but she knew she couldn't control his heart.

As Vicky entered his office, he was met with the angry glares of his creative colleagues. "Woah, what's with the look..." Vicky asked, moving to his seat. "Are you seriously asking that question?" Jessica retorted.

"Yes, who else will I ask?" Vicky replied, trying to deflect the tension. Jimmy spoke up, "We had an agreement on Friday, we were supposed to head for lunch and you didn't come. We waited for you, but you were nowhere to be seen."

Vicky apologized, "Oh, that's what this is about, guys. I'm sorry, something important popped up, and I couldn't miss it... my bad." Frank inquired, "What important thing?"

Vicky hesitated, stammering, "Erm... something... important." Jimmy's eyes lit up, "You're stammering, that means it's juicy. Spill the beans, Vicky." Vicky tried to brush it off, "What's with that look, and why should I tell you?"

Frank chimed in, "Come on, bro, spill it." Vicky sighed, "Fine. I went for lunch with Mirabel." The room erupted in surprise, with Jimmy, Frank, and Jessica exclaiming in unison, "What?!"

Jessica bombarded him with questions, "You went out with Miss Mirabel for lunch? How did that happen? What trick did you use? How and why?" Vicky shrugged, "She called me and asked if I wanted to join her for lunch, and I agreed. That's that."

Jimmy raised an eyebrow, "Hmmm, I'm beginning to suspect the both of you. What's really going on between you two?" Vicky downplayed the encounter, "Nothing, man. It was just a friendly meeting and conversation."

Frank pressed him for more information, "Come on, man..." Vicky tried to change the subject, "Guys, we have to get on with work. We don't want to be caught slacking around."

Frank wouldn't let it go, "Bro, don't change the topic. Just tell us." Vicky sighed, "Fine. I'll tell you, but promise that this stays between us."

The colleagues promised to keep the secret, and Vicky revealed, "Alright... well, I'm in love with Mirabel, and I..." Jimmy interrupted, "What?! When and how did this happen?"

Vicky explained, "I don't know, man. Love has its ways. I've confessed my love to her, and now I'm just awaiting her response." Frank saluted Vicky, "Bro, you've got some guts... respect."

Jessica beamed with excitement, "Wow, Vicky, I'm so happy for you. I knew something was brewing between you two." Frank added, "Yeah, bro, well done."

Jimmy chimed in, "Dude, I really think she feels the same way about you. It's somewhat evident." Vicky's face lit up with hope, "Hmmm, do you really think so?"

Jimmy nodded, "Sure." Jessica cautioned, "Let's not jump to conclusions. Let's wait for her response. In all, I'm happy for you."

As they discussed Vicky's love life, Jimmy mentioned Lucy, "Lucy's gonna lose her mind if she hears this." Vicky gave him a stern look, "No, I'm not telling."

The colleagues settled into their work, but Vicky's anxiety grew as he awaited Mirabel's response. Mirabel, on the other hand, remained uncertain about how to express her love to Vicky. Whenever she saw him, she turned back to avoid close contact, her heart racing with excitement.

She knew she loved him but couldn't express it, her feelings bottled up inside. The rest of the day was filled with stress and anticipation for Vicky, eagerly awaiting Mirabel's response.
