Episode 14: The Obsidian Protocol

---

Rain lashed against the windows of the safehouse as thunder rolled overhead. Inside, the D7 team stared at the monitors in stunned silence.

More red alerts flashed across the screen. Private government firewalls were dropping. Obsidian Protocol was waking up—and it wasn't waiting for permission.

Reese leaned closer, voice low. "Tell me that thing isn't active."

Eve's fingers danced across the keyboard. "It's spreading through the backdoors Nexus planted in every global system. Hospitals, banks, satellites—everything."

Julian clenched his jaw. "Max didn't just want to expose them. He wanted to destroy their power from the inside out."

"But why didn't he tell us?" Carter asked.

"Because if we knew," Julian said, "we might've stopped him."

---

Location Unknown – Underground Black Site

Lucian sat alone in his darkened cell, a faint smile creeping across his lips as the lights above flickered.

A voice crackled through the wall. "You lost everything. Why are you smiling?"

Lucian leaned back. "Because I'm not the one who woke the devil. Max did. And now they'll learn—Obsidian doesn't just kill data. It rewrites it."

He looked up, straight into the surveillance camera. "Let the games begin."

---

Safehouse Echo Point

Julian paced the floor as Eve ran diagnostics. "The program is rewriting control codes in real-time. It's erasing military tracking systems, deleting evidence, unlocking systems never meant to be breached."

Reese cursed under his breath. "So now what? We unleashed the beast. How do we kill it?"

Carter studied a rotating wireframe of Obsidian's spread. "We don't. Max didn't just give us a nuke—he handed us a god."

Eve slammed the desk. "We have to find the core. Obsidian's origin node. Before it mutates."

Julian nodded slowly. "There's one place Nexus never wanted us to look. The very beginning. The Forge."

Everyone went silent. The Forge was a myth among the hacking world—a digital graveyard where programs like Obsidian were born and buried.

"Max found it," Julian added. "And he hid the coordinates inside the chip. That's why it's glowing again."

---

24 Hours Later – En Route to The Forge

A battered armored van roared across the ruins of a forgotten tech district. Concrete skeletons of buildings loomed on both sides as the city gave way to silence.

Julian, Eve, Carter, and Reese were armed and ready.

"This place used to be Silicon's cradle," Carter said, eyes scanning the horizon. "Now it's just bones and wires."

"We're not just looking for data," Eve said. "We're looking for a ghost."

As they reached the buried entrance to the Forge, Reese activated a seismic scanner. "There's something down there. Deep. And still powered."

Julian stepped forward, voice calm but charged. "Then let's see what Max died to show us."

---

Meanwhile – Obsidian Mainframe, Active Node

Within a digital space that looked more like a storm than code, a construct formed—a ghost in the machine. It took the shape of Max.

But it wasn't him.

Not really.

Lines of code streamed like rain across a glass sky. A voice echoed from the void:

"New parameters accepted. Global reconfiguration initiated. Phase Two—begin."

The construct blinked. And smiled.

---

Back at the Forge Entrance

The steel doors slid open with a groan, revealing rows of ancient servers humming with unnatural life. Screens activated on their own, showing videos of Max—recorded confessions, maps, secrets.

Julian froze. One file was labeled: Julian – Watch This Alone.

He opened it. Max's face appeared, worn, tired, but determined.

"If you're seeing this, I'm dead. And you've opened the Forge. Good. You always knew how this had to end."

Julian leaned closer.

"I didn't just want to break Nexus. I wanted to give the world a chance to rebuild. But to do that, we have to erase everything they built—starting here."

Max's eyes narrowed. "Obsidian is alive. But it can be rewritten. The core is in this Forge. All you have to do... is finish what I started."

The video ended.

Julian stood tall. "Time to burn the past... and write the future."
