Episode 13: Ashes and Echoes
---
Sirens howled across the nation. Screens flickered in government offices, media towers, military bases. From New York to New Delhi, the same warning buzzed:
"INFORMATION BREACH: LEVEL 10. GLOBAL SYSTEM COMPROMISED."
In the heart of the Nexus vault, Julian stood still, breathing heavily as the overload of data exploded like wildfire across cyberspace. Eve's fingers trembled as she disconnected the chip, its edges scorched from the intensity.
Reese lowered his gun, panting. "We just flipped the table on the entire world."
Lucian, crouched in the corner, bleeding from a gash above his brow, chuckled. "Fools. You think transparency fixes everything? You just opened a door no one's ready to walk through."
Julian stepped closer, eyes like ice. "We didn't open it. We broke the lock. Let the people decide what to do with the truth."
Lucian looked up, something dark in his voice. "Then pray they choose better than we did."

Two Hours Later – Safehouse Echo Point
The air was thick with tension. Carter had rejoined the group after escaping capture, limping in with a bruised face and a fractured rib. The remaining members of D7 were finally in one place.
Julian sat at the head of the room, the scorched data chip resting on the table like a trophy—or a curse.
"I don't know how far the ripples of this will spread," Julian said. "But we've done our part. We exposed Nexus. The world knows now."
Carter leaned back against the wall. "And in the chaos, they'll come for us harder than ever."
Eve nodded. "Lucian's right about one thing. We lit the fuse. The explosion's coming."
Reese cracked his knuckles. "Let it come. I'll be ready with fireworks of my own."
Julian looked around at his team. Scarred, tired, grieving—but alive.
"We don't disappear," he said. "We don't scatter. We stand. Together."
There was a long pause. Then Eve placed her hand on the chip. "We still have a backup. Not just the breach… but everything else Max left behind. His journal. His blueprints. The real story of how Nexus was born."
Julian's voice dropped low. "Then we don't just burn down the house. We expose the foundation. We show them everything."

Meanwhile – Ghost Net Recovery Base, Sector 9
Lucian sat in a containment cell, wrists bound, watched by armed guards. On a nearby monitor, world leaders argued in ten languages. The world was unraveling.
A sleek woman in a white suit stepped into the cell. Her eyes were cold as frost.
"You failed," she said.
Lucian didn't flinch. "No. I evolved."
She leaned in. "You know what happens next."
Lucian grinned. "You'll need me before this ends. Because what they just unleashed... it wasn't just data."
The woman narrowed her eyes. "Explain."
Lucian looked into the camera overhead. "They didn't just access Nexus. They triggered Project Obsidian."

Flashback – Unknown Nexus Archive (Weeks Ago)
Max's fingers trembled as he read a hidden subfolder buried deep within the Nexus core. His eyes widened.
"Jesus Christ," he whispered. "What is this?"
Encrypted files. Dozens. Each marked:
OBS-01, OBS-02... OBS-99
Biometric tracking. Psychological warfare simulations. Remote mind sync. Global population testing.
It wasn't just control. It was programming.

Present Day – Safehouse
Julian stood alone on the balcony, the city below flickering with uncertainty. The world was changing, fast and without mercy.
Eve joined him, a coffee mug in her hand. "You feel it, don't you?"
Julian nodded. "The silence before something worse."
She looked at him. "Do we run?"
He shook his head. "No. We prepare."
A faint beep came from the room inside. Reese called out, "Guys! You need to see this—now!"
They rushed in. On the screen, hundreds of private servers began going dark. All traceable back to Obsidian Protocol.
The chip in Eve's hand glowed faintly again.
Julian's eyes narrowed. "Max didn't just give us the truth."
Carter stepped beside him. "He gave us the next battlefield."
