Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

He had eaten almost half of the serpent, damn, did I always have such a large stomach? He looked at the blood red crystal on his hand.

He had heard about this, it was called a blood core, every beast formed one, he also heard rumours that humans also form them when they reach a certain level but he doesn't know if that is true, however every beast had one without an exception.

Creatures without blood cores were called animals, like the rats found on the city, there were few animals in the world and most were small and could hide very well, that how they survive in this cruel world.

He knew he was supposed to absorb this blood core to grow stronger but he had no idea how. System, how do I absorb this? Does host wish to absorb blood core?

Yes, he felt something enter through his hand that was holding the blood core. It felt nice and refreshing like drinking water after a few days without it.

The core turned opaque as he absorbed more energy, in a few minutes it was completely transparent. It shattered to dust after that.

He closed his eyes as he felt the energy course through his veins, he moaned with pleasure. A minute later the feeling dissipated.

He flexed his arms and felt they were stronger than before, he could not quantify the increase in strength but If he had to estimate he was probably three times more powerful than before.

He looked around in this room and saw a large piece of a broken mirror on the wall. Taking off his dirty and stinking clothes he looked himself in the mirror.

His dark skin was glossier and he was more muscular than before with toned muscles and a six pack. The only thing that did not change was his ashy white-grey hair.

Normally people with his skin tone would have hard, thicker and harder hair but his was different. It was hard yes but it grew to be longer and it flowed.

He had tried to comb it before but it did not work, it just returns to being messy like he just came out of a heavy storm, it felt like thin metal wires to the touch that could be moved by the faintest gust of wind. He put his clothes back on.

He put out the fire he used to roast the snake meat and looked out the window, it was dark out and he could not see anybody which made sense.

This part of town was abondened, it was closer to the wall and unlike the big cities of the nobles that he heard were surrounded by metal walls, this town was surrounded by wood.

Beasts could easily tear through them but they did give people a sense of security which was enough. Even though they were not strong enough to actually block beasts they did hide humans from them.

As he sat there he remembered the 6 people who died, they were members of the gang that ruled this place, he did not see anyone come get them after so he went to check.

Not because he cared no, those guys were bullies and selfish, they took peoples food as a protection fee but everytime there's a breach they always run and use people as meat shields.

The only reason those 6 died was because they did not get a chance to even run. They shot at the ash serpent as soon as they saw it and that angered it, it chased and killed them one by one.

Slowly and quietly he approached the place where they died, he found pieces of their mangled corpses, the ash serpent did not even bother eating them, he did find one whose corpse was mostly intact and took his clothes.

He found what he was looking for, guns. He doesn't know what they are called but they were long and had two handles? No this looks like the thing with bullets.

He didn't have time to experiment so he just collected the guns and the bullets case things that looks like handles and left. Back in his room he started experimenting.

He knew how to pull the trigger and all that was left was to figure out the rest. Within a few minutes he already had an idea how this thing worked.

He had to hide them, if the gang founds out he took them they would definitely kill him. With all that done, he hid 5 of them in hole behind a huge thing made of wood, it was called a wardrobe I think.

He rapped the remaining snake meat in the snakes skin and left, he was going to the building across the street, it would give him a good vantage point.

The building was five stories high, well it was taller before but some part of the building fell off, probably during the first invasion of the abyss he didn't know.

He slept of the fourth floor near a window. Later that night, maybe it was early morning the next day? Either way he heard footsteps and people talking.

I can't find the guns, what do you mean you can't find the guns? Did it eat them together with those fools? That the thing though, it did not eat them, just tore them apart, look, somebody took his clothes as well.

What? So what happened to the guns? I don't know man stop asking me but somebody might've taken them. What are we going to report to the boss? You know he's going to kill us for this.

I said I don't know, also I don't think boss will kill us, it not our fault. That had never stopped him before. Fuck, so what are gonna do?

I don't know, look for them. Where the hell would we even begin? Just look around, whoever took them might not be far. Do you think that kid took them?

No way, the kid is dead, nobody can survive that thing without a bloodline or weapon and even guns didn't work. Yeah you're right. He heard two voices belonging to men.

He took a peek and saw them approach the building he was in before. He placed his gun in the window and watched them through the tube thing with a glass in it.

Their figures zoomed in and he watched them check every room starting from the first floor until they reached the room he was in before.

Well well well, what should I do about you, I can't be having you expose me now can I? He said as placed his finger on the trigger and put the safety feature off.
