Chapter 10 - chapter 10

Meredith turned to look at Maxwell and Felicity, who were standing at the far end of the corridor a distance away from her. They smiled warmly at her, but she could tell that they were urging her to open the door. She remembered Felicity's words, "Don't knock on the door. You just have to go in. he is waiting for you. " She swallowed and let out a breath. If he really saved her like they had kept assuring her, then she had to thank him and ask him if he could help her get back home. Mate? She wasn't so sure about that. What she was sure about was how to use it to her own advantage. If he had come to save her because she was his mate, wouldn't he be willing to protect and help her?. Her eyes travelled to the door knob as she turned it and pushed the door to the room open.

The room was pitch black when Meredith walked in. She could only see a few things because of the light that came on through the corridor, but she couldn't see him, not yet. Was he really in here? She was able to make out an outline of a chair as she walked further into the room and soon could tell that someone was sitting on the chair. Was it him? The beast? or man or werewolf, no lycan! he was a lycan, that was what they told her. he was the one who had saved her. The one who called her his "mate", the thought of being someone's mate, was unsettling to her.

"Excuse me." Meredith could hear the fear in her own voice, and she hated it. It was Raw and tasted metallic. What if he turned into a beast once again? No, he wouldn't hurt her. He didn't hurt her before. Well, it didn't change the fact that he was huge and his growl. that ear-piercing growl. She couldn't help but think about it. She had been so frightened the previous day and felt grateful and a bit thankful that he hadn't planned on eating her.

"Felicity told me you want to speak with me," Meredith said to try to ease her tension when he wouldn't respond. She waited for a few seconds for him to say something, anything to her, but she was greeted by absolute silence; the only thing she could hear was her raging heart because of how nervous she was.

"They told me you saved me. I was going to get sold if you didn't show up." She continued and took a step closer towards the chair. Was he asleep? She doubted that they wouldn't have told her he wanted to speak to her if he was asleep

"Thank you... for saving me. I don't know how I ended up in such a mess. I should have been more careful. But it's hard to be when you keep seeing them. it gets hard to ignore them." Meredith continued to blabber for her own sake.

"But you saved me" " she added and paused for a while again. Still, she got no response. Maybe he was really asleep

"I was so shocked when I saw you yesterday, I've never seen a were... lycan before." Meredith continued talking and took another step closer. Was he ignoring her? Wasn't he the same person who wanted to speak with her? Why wasn't he saying anything!

"I was shocked when she explained the entire situation about me, well... being your mate and..." She couldn't complete her words because he stood up abruptly, causing her to freeze. Was he finally going to speak or look at her? It felt like a minute, but it only took a few seconds for him to turn to look at her, and when he did, Meredith swallowed, her heart dropped because of the look in his eyes. That bone-chilling fear came right back with a force. His eyes were completely cold, almost dead as he stared at her. It felt like he was staring deep into her soul. Did she say or do something to upset him? She had only done what Maxwell and Felicity told her to do. What was his deal! Why did he bring her here if he was only going to keep scaring her?

"Mate!" His voice thundered through the entire room, causing Meredith to flinch in fear. She wanted to disappear from the room. Her heart dropped when he started to walk towards her... she started to move away from him, her entire body trembling in fear because she could see his eyes change to gold in the dark room. It scared her to her bones, and she wanted to bolt right out of the room. She was about to do just that, but she heard the door of the room close with a loud bang that made her heart drop to her stomach. Her stomach churned because she couldn't see a single thing except his golden eyes, which were bright in the dark room.

"You aren't my mate! Never will be. " She could hear the displeasure and raw Digust in his enraged tone as he continued to walk towards her. Meredith's stomach churned even further when her back touched the cold wall of the room, stopping her from moving away any further from him. She couldn't even hide away from him because she couldn't see a thing. She held her breath, her heart ramming loudly in her chest when he was just a foot away from her. She fisted her hand and closed her eyes, afraid of what he was going to do to her, but what she heard next was his chilling voice that sent an icy shiver of fright down her spine... "I, Calhoun Donovan, reject you as My mate," He said without a single shred of emotion evident in his voice. The only emotions she could detect were anger and pure rage! A rage that frightened her. She was to leave!
