Chapter 9 - chapter 9

"She had been asleep for so long are you sure she is alright"

"How many times are you going to ask me that. she is fine, she is asleep right now, we just have to wait till she gets up"

"But we have been waiting for so many hours now. We don't have a lot of time, what if he comes out of his room"

Meredith could hear two unfamiliar voices going back and forth close to her. Was this a dream? Was she back home? Who owned these voices? Why was the bed so soft and her throat so dry. It took a few seconds for everything to come flooding back to her.

Meredith's eyes flew open and grew wide when the memories of everything came rushing back to her. She got up from the bed abruptly startling the two people in the room. Meredith stood on the bed and moved away from them, her eyes trailing back and forth between the two strangers.

"Who are you! Where am I!" she asked in a fear-filled, confused voice, her eyes travelling back and forth between the two people in the room who looked nervous as they stared at her.

"Don't worry you are safe here," Maxwell said, hoping their unexpected guest would relax, but Meredith was far from relaxing. All the memories of everything were back, and the last thing she remembered didn't have the information as to why she was here. "I'm Felicity, and this is Maxwell", Felicity said in a soft tone, trying her best to make Meredith calm down. She couldn't blame her. Of course, she was acting this way. After all, she woke up in a strange place with people she had never seen standing in front of her. She could see the fear and confusion in the young woman's eyes, and she felt really sorry.

"Mr Donovan brought you here last night. You were unconscious, but he saved you", Felicity explained, and Meredith relaxed a bit.

"He saved me?" Meredith said in a low voice and Felicity nodded. "of course. Mr Donovan is such a sweet soul." She said and smiled brightly at their guest. "Why don't you have a seat while we explain everything that is happening," Felicity said and sat down at the edge of the bed. She was patient and waited till Merredith finally calmed down and slowly took a seat on the bed, but she was still cautious and alert. "You were unconscious for a while, we only came in here to check if you were fine. We don't really know about humans you see. But you seemed okay. Just exhausted," Felicity said and turned to look at Maxwell who handed her the glass of water in his hand. She handed the glass of water to Meredith but Meredith didn't take it from her even though she was beyond thirsty. Her lips were dry, and it took a lot of willpower for her not to accept the glass of water.

"Don't worry, it's okay", Felicity said and took a small sip from the water. Meredith's eyes trailed to her throat to observe if she had swallowed it, and when she saw that she had, she accepted the glass of water and drank everything in one go. Maxwell and Felicity watched and waited till she was done before Felicity continued talking.

"He really saved you" " she said, gaining Meredith's attention once again.

She and Maxwell had gone into the woods earlier that morning and saw the mess of everything that had happened. They found the shapeshifter with his missing hand, surprising he was still alive but unconscious and weak. Maxwell had taken care of that part and they could tell that Calhoun had really saved her from being sold.

"He saved you from those despicable shapeshifters. A place like this isn't safe for humans. There are so many Evil people lurking around," Felicity said, and Maxwell immediately cleared his throat; he couldn't let her frighten their guest. Wasn't the plan to get her to stay!

Felicity quickly realised her mistake. "But not everyone is evil; some people are kind here, Like Mr Donovan" " she added, and Meredith nodded. She was still trying to process everything that had happened. She had been taken, then almost sold, almost gotten eaten. No, that had been cleared up; it was a misunderstanding. he wasn't planning on eating her. Instead, he had saved her. "But why?" The words escaped Meredith's mouth before she could stop it, and her eyes grew slightly wide; she had thought aloud.

"He saved you because you are his mate"

"Mate?" Meredith remembered that he had called her the previous night. "Yes, his mate." Felicity went into a short but detailed explanation of what it meant to be a Lycan's mate. She was sure enough to add the fact that they made sure to protect their mate. Meredith listened and digested her words, was that why he brought her here because he wanted to protect her?

"He wants to speak with you; he told us to bring you to him once you are awake," Felicity said, and Maxwell fisted his hand because he wasn't too keen on this tactic. What if things went sideways. Calhoun was unpredictable, no one knew what he was thinking or why he hadn't rejected her yet.

"Why does he want to see me?" Meredith asked in a low voice; this was the most relieved she had felt in the last twelve hours. She couldn't sense any danger from the people in front of her. Instead, they seemed pretty nice, and the bed she was sitting on was really comfortable.

It took Felicity just a few seconds to come up with something; she was more eager than ever. "Why don't you speak to him first," She suggested and got up from the edge of the bed. "Come with us. He is waiting" Meredith was hesitant, but she took Felicity's hand that was stretched out to her. Everything was happening so fast, she was his mate and he had saved her because of that. Was that how the mate thing worked. He would come anytime she was in danger. She doubted it. Where had he been all the other times she had been in danger, or was it too far away from him to locate her and help her. she had too many questions on her hands as she followed the both of them out of the room.

"He might seem a little cold at first, but I promise you he is a kind person, just thank him for yesterday. And you don't have to knock on his door, just go in" Felicity said to Meredith as they walked down the corridor to Alex's door. Maxwell was quiet because he was nervous and hoping that things wouldn't turn out the opposite way than they had intended. He held Felicity and stopped her from walking any further. "We should wait here," He said when she turned to look at him in question. Meredith stopped in her tracks and turned to look at them when she realised they had stopped walking. "don't worry, we will be right here", Felicity assured, and she nodded. Why did they both look nervous, Meredith wondered as she continued walking.
