After finishing the diary, Kasumigaoka Utaha looked even more conflicted than before.
The content was simply too shocking.
A transmigrator from another world… the idea that she, along with who knows how many others currently reading the diary, were actually heroines of their own stories… and then there was this mysterious diary itself…
In a country like Japan, where family names are plentiful, "Kasumigaoka" wasn't exactly a common one. And now that she had received the diary, it was statistically very likely that she was the "Kasumigaoka-senpai" mentioned in it.
Although she wouldn't officially be a second-year high schooler until after spring break, the diary said her story wouldn't begin for another year—by then, she'd be a third-year, so "senpai" would indeed be fitting.
So… the male lead of her story must be a kouhai, one or two years younger than her?
Or… could it be that she was the protagonist of a yuri series and was being pursued by a younger girl?
Utaha's mind began to spiral, but she quickly shook her head to clear it.
Kouhai, senpai, girl or boy—none of that mattered to her right now.
What really caught her attention was what the "Mysterious One" had said about her: that she was a very popular character in his previous world, someone who showed up in practically every multiverse fanfic just to get ruined.
The word "multiverse anime" wasn't that common in Japanese ACG communities, but the meaning was clear enough.
Honestly, if she had to choose between being a popular heroine in some massive franchise and being used endlessly in derivative works by random fans… she'd rather believe wizards were real.
If wizards exist, then surely there must be a spell to make someone forget everything!
Utaha clenched her teeth. Now she understood why this "Mysterious One" refused to reveal his identity, going so far as to act mysterious with that line—"I'm the man you can never have." He was clearly just a nosy, drama-loving troublemaker who enjoyed chaos.
If she knew who he was right now, she would've rushed to his place in the dead of night, kicked him hard, and forced him to cough up everything he knew about her future.
She wondered if the "Miss Yukinoshita" who was only briefly mentioned in the diary had also read it by now. If she had, she was probably just as frustrated and fuming as Utaha was.
But personal feelings aside, the most important thing now was to verify how real the contents of this diary actually were.
After a few deep breaths to steady herself, Utaha rubbed her temples and focused on the second half of the diary, where the idol named Hoshino Ai was mentioned.
When it came to Ai's story, the Mysterious One had written it in a surprisingly neutral tone.
A 15-year-old idol becoming pregnant out of wedlock—that kind of scandal would be fatal in the entertainment industry. If Utaha had seen something like that on TV, she probably would've scolded the entertainment world for being so filthy.
Even in anime, a character like Hoshino Ai would be considered highly controversial.
That said… having such a juicy, forbidden secret about a young idol laid bare right before her eyes, Utaha couldn't help but feel the thrill of juicy gossip.
But then, the thought that she herself might become someone else's gossip fodder in the future immediately killed whatever enjoyment had just started to form.
Resigned to the fact that she probably wasn't getting any sleep tonight thanks to this supernatural nonsense, Utaha turned on her computer to investigate what kind of idol Hoshino Ai actually was.
As an idol, Hoshino Ai's public profile wasn't exactly hard to find. Using the details from the diary, Utaha quickly dug up her info and even managed to slip into her fan support community, where she gathered more background knowledge.
An orphan raised in a children's home, discovered at the age of twelve, and now the center of a third-rate idol group called B-Komachi.
Utaha had to admit—Hoshino Ai did have an advantage in appearance. Especially those glittering, starry eyes. Just one look, and you'd remember her instantly.
"But her figure's nowhere near as good as mine," Utaha judged with a single glance.
"She spent three whole years and still hasn't broken 100,000 Twitter followers? Definitely a third-rate idol."
"Although… her comment section is surprisingly active. A lot of the replies seem to be from new fans too. Did her career suddenly pick up recently or something?"
As she browsed Hoshino Ai's Twitter feed, flipping through those carefully edited and polished photos, Kasumigaoka Utaha narrowed her eyes.
'Before her official debut, during those first three years, Hoshino Ai still looked radiant in the photos—but as a fellow woman, Kasumigaoka Utaha could sense her discomfort and cautiousness in wearing such dazzling outfits and makeup.'
After all, she'd grown up in an orphanage. Third-rate idols didn't earn much money. That kind of awkwardness was only natural.
It wasn't until the past two months that Hoshino Ai seemed to "awaken," suddenly learning how to coordinate her outfits and apply makeup properly. Her performances on stage also became far more passionate and engaging than before.
Utaha could clearly feel that Ai had become more expressive and open during her idol activities in recent months.
If she had to describe it, she'd say Ai had suddenly developed a subtle trace of womanly charm over the past few months.
And it was precisely this seemingly small change that had driven the recent surge in activity among Ai's Twitter followers.
A girl who was already impossibly beautiful to begin with learning how to radiate real charm? Of course that was going to attract a wave of new fans.
Watching how this once-businesslike, fake-smiling little girl had bloomed into someone who now exuded true charm on stage, Kasumigaoka Utaha's mind immediately connected the dots—straight to that scumbag Hikaru Kamiki mentioned in the diary by the "Mysterious One."
He had written very clearly that Kamiki was a scumbag—someone who took the lives of talented individuals to satisfy his own twisted desires, and likely the true culprit behind Ai's death in the future.
"A girl raised in an orphanage, dragged into the flashy entertainment world at 12, deceived by a dirtbag, ends up pregnant out of wedlock, and finally killed by an obsessed fan... what an utterly rotten story," Utaha sighed with a touch of bitterness.
"I wonder if she's received the diary too… But if she and Kamiki are currently in the throes of love, then even a sudden magical diary might not be enough to shake her out of it."
Utaha didn't feel any urge to go searching for Hoshino Ai in real life—at least, not for now.
After all, she'd only even learned of Ai's existence earlier today. She had no reason to interfere in someone else's life choices.
Even the mysterious diary writer had only offered suggestions—not commands. He'd even kindly recommended two famous detectives for Ai to reach out to. As long as Ai saw the diary and wasn't completely blinded by love, she might still avoid walking down the tragic path described.
"Besides, I don't even know how the other diary holders feel about all this. Being the first one to show herself isn't necessarily a good thing… For now, I should just keep observing a bit longer. Let's see what this mysterious guy writes next before making any decisions," Utaha muttered to herself.
And elsewhere across Japan, there were many others having thoughts similar to Kasumigaoka Utaha's.
Some were equally cautious…
Others were hyped up, already booking tickets to Hoshino Ai's next live performance after reading the diary.
But regardless of how each person reacted, one thing was certain—For many girls, tonight would be a sleepless night.
