Chapter 25 - Chapter 25: Flashback 2

Time slowly passed as Lynx stood frozen in place staring at his father's corpse as he couldn't understand nor could he process the situation, it was as if he knew what was happening but his mind refused to process anything, his face was frozen with a petrified look of terror. Lynx was left lost for words, growing up his father told him that the people above were cool, smart and that all people were equal even if they could transform or not and they should always look out for others. Lynx grew up living by his father's words and always imagined what it would be like when he met one of the Skylanders, Lyron was always careful with him and where they went, in every way Lyron would try to avoid all areas where Skylanders would possibly be. As Lynx looked down at his father's remains he was in denial, he stood there and thought maybe the Robotic people weren't from the above and they were from somewhere else. It was the only explanation he could come up with since their actions did not match the one's of the stories his father told. Lynx believes everything his father tells him, he always believe in his father and so he stood there looking down at his father's body slowly feeding his young self lies.

Lynx mind was lost surrounding in a blank state, he slowly bent down removing a rope from his bag side and tied it to his father's upper torso. Lynx then tied the other end of the rope around his waist deciding to bring the body of his father back home. There were no roads that he could use and the only option was to walk over the debris and garbage that laid around and so his task wasn't easy especially for someone his age. He tripped and fell a few times bruising himself, but he always stood back up as if the pain didn't bother him. While pulling his father body engrossed in the void of his thoughts, there was a man secretly watching him and was impressed to see a child carrying supplies and alone. He walked over to Lynx and quietly approached him, even though Lynx had good hearing as he was trained by his father he didn't hear the man approaching him. With his mind still a blank Lynx couldn't hear anything it was if he was walking in a void he couldn't hear nor feel anything. The man was close enough and when he saw the body being dragged by the young boy he felt taken aback when his eyes looked over the disturbing figure of a body, but he remained his composure, seeing a body was a norm, he was only shocked because a young child was carrying it. The man didn't care about anything he only had one mission, Lynx was walking with his head hanging low.

"Hey kid" the man called as he placed a hand on Lynx's shoulder, but when Lynx rose his head and looked at the man he quickly retreated his hand and fell to the ground. Lynx looked at the man with his dirty and blood strained face, widen empty eyes, large pupils and a stiff and soulless expression, it seemed as if his soul had abundant his body. Lynx said nothing while looking down at the man who was still on the ground trembling unbeknownst to him. The man looked at Lynx still unable to move and thought whatever he went through was too much and it left him traumatized. He had seen a lot of things in his life, a lot of expressions but the boy before him was a whole new expression. The man then stood to his feet finally getting rid of some of the fear, he looked at the body once more and theorized that the body being pulled was probably the boy's father and a good one. In truth the man only approached Lynx to rob him since he was alone, but seeing Lynx's face he was second guessing his actions and he couldn't bring himself to rob Lynx, the world is evil and he was evil too and he knew he was, but for some reason he didn't want to rob the boy. The man then took the body from the ground and placed it over his shoulder.

"Let me give you a hand" he said but Lynx said nothing and continued his journey while still holding the rope. Soon the night fell as the place got much darker and they could hardly see anything now, but Lynx kept walking as if he had night vision. The movements around them could be felt and the scrimmage across the lands and low cracking sounds could be heard, the man thought at times like these he was in his safe place hiding. The man looked around and wondered why haven't they ran into any monsters and that's when it hit him as his eyes opened from realization.

"He's a Useless", the man thought. Useless a term referred to those who didn't possess the Robotic power. He wasn't sensing the strange energy from Lynx or the body he was carry and because he was with the two of them his energy was being canceled and so he felt relieved and a bit safer, the man was dead so he wasn't too sure or maybe they were just lucky. Time passed the darkness increasing and the man wanted to leave to where ever he had to be, he had never been out so late before. They were quiet the entire journey, but he wanted to leave and so he was the first to break the silence.

"Hey kid are we close? Say five minutes?" he asked trying to keep his voice low, but his question was answered with silence, the man sighed knowing it was his fault for helping, he could've just rob the helpless boy and be on his way, but he didn't. Lynx only kept walking their journey continuing in silence. They then finally reached Lynx's home and he led the man through their secret door and down the ladder, the man was surprised seeing their home it looked well kept in his eyes and comfortable, but to a normal person the room would be described as untidy; but in the current world comfort and clean was a luxury, but he said nothing as he secretly admired the place. If he had found the place a long time ago he would have killed them or send them away and then take over, but now he couldn't bring himself to despite how defenseless and a easy kill the boy was. The man placed the body on the floor as Lynx pointed, he stood there for a moment and watched as Lynx covered the body as if it was a sleeping person. Even in the cruel world there were still few people who could sympathize with others. The man watched as Lynx knelt next to the body and was about to leave, but then Lynx stood up and his eyes locked with the man's. The man shivered as his heartbeat quicken, but then his gaze soften or so he thought, but it appeared as if Lynx was looking at him rather than through him.

"You can rest here until morning" Lynx said in a low hoarse voice as he looked at the man. He couldn't handle Lynx's soulless face and avoided eye contact, just by observing Lynx the man could tell that he was a loving and kind person, but under Lynx's gaze he felt slightly frighten. He could tell that this child had never experienced the cruel world, he must have been told sweet fairytales. What cruelty lies were. Such cruel beings his father was. One should never preach that black is white, instead they should preach how to turn black to white

"Nah, but thanks. The name's Z by the way" the man said and waited for Lynx to give his name in return, but Lynx said nothing. The man felt awkward as Lynx only stared at him, Z was turning to leave when a bag landed by his foot. Lynx was taught that every good deed deserved an award. Z looked into the bag and knew what Lynx's actions meant, he then took a few things and added it to his bag and then threw the bag back to Lynx.

"You're going to need it kid" Z said as he turned giving Lynx a thumbs up and a smile, but he was once again met with Lynx's soulless face. Z t walked away heading up the ladder and left through the door. When Z left Lynx turned back to his father and the tears slowly made there way down his cheeks but his face still looked lost. Lynx sat there eventually falling asleep, he was sometime later awoken by the slight stench of his father corpse. He stood to his feet and then placed a small portion of food in his father's mouth and then climbed up the ladder going outside. Lynx went to the back of their house and then started digging a hole, he kept digging hardly taking any break and then after many hours if digging he was finally finished. The time had darken showing it was almost nighttime, but Lynx didn't care. Lynx went back inside taking a long look at Lyron's body before wrapping a rope around it and struggled while dragging it up the ladder. His hands slipped a few times the friction rubbing against his palm burning his hand, but he kept pulling ignoring the pain. He dragged the body to the back and tied it on a machine he made after he dug the hole. The machine Lynx created had two legs that stood on both sides over the hole he dug and a circular space that connected both legs. He placed the rope through a hole on the contraption and pushed his father body into the hole, the body fell in with a thud. Lynx went back inside and gathered a few of his father's belongings placing it in the hole with him. Lynx stood at the hole looking down at his father and started crying again, more than he ever did as if the situation was now dawning at him. After some time of crying he wiped his tears away and started burying his father as the sky darken, he pulled on a rope that was tied to the contraption and then the dirt and bits of debris dropped into the hole. He used a shovel to bury his father and didn't stop until his father was fully and properly buried.

He finally finished covering Lyron's body and collapsed from exhaustion and hunger, as he laid next to his father's grave, he clutched the pendant around his neck and started crying once more.

"I'm….I'm alone" he whispered as he cried silently, finally knowing what loneliness meant.

Lynx woke up the next day and walked slowly back to his house feeling weak. He went down the ladder and as he walked around he saw a few of his father's things. He looked at his father's belongings and recollected the stories his father told him about the world above and how amazing it was. Lynx went over all the stories his father had told him while he ate and fed himself more lies about the world above and the people who killed his father wasn't from the above. The kind gesture that was given by Z gave Lynx more reason to believe that people were like equals and were like family and they looked out for one another.

In reality Lyron hid the treacherous facts about life from Lynx, he always hid the dark truth about crimes, death and suffering from him and made everything seemed well. Lyron knew what it was like being exposed to the cruelty of the world and especially since Lynx wasn't like the others, he didn't possess any Core power and he was just like the rest of the regular humans that were now called 'a Useless' which was rare and that meant he would be picked on a lot. Lyron knew what it was like living without Core power since he was just the same, a Coreless person, a Useless. Lyron was well aware of the harsh reality and the outcomes of those who didn't possess Core Power, sometimes the kindness treatment was death. Lyron wanted to give Lynx a second chance to find happiness as the first time was taken away. He made a gift box waiting for Lynx to grow up so he could hand it to him, he placed the truth in the box along with a written note, he also gave Lynx a pendant and told him never to take it off. Years passed and when Lynx was finally of age and was able to leave with his father they encountered a few people who soon started laughing and pointing at Lynx proving Lyron's suspicions Lynx was just like him, but Lyron managed to turn Lynx away and explained to Lynx they were just happy seeing him and he then told Lynx a short story hoping he would forget about it and it worked. Each time he lied he felt as if a piece of his heart was ripped off, he knew the truth would come out, but he still didn't want to let Lynx know the truth, Lynx looked too happy and innocent for it. Lyron wanted Lynx to smile forever even though he knew it wasn't possible he would still try and make sure he smiled as long as possible, but now he was dead.
