Mia questioned calmly. She was not agitated with the lack of respect that Kate was showing her; instead, she held her ground through sheer rationality.
Hearing her response, Kate gritted her teeth. With her fists clenched on her sides, she remarked, "Let's be honest, Mia. The only reason you keep refusing to let anyone take responsibility for these pups is because you want to prove to the shelter that you are a valuable asset that it can't work without."
She placed her hand on her plump bosom before stating, "I, on the other hand, believe that there is no such thing. Anyone can tame these beasts as long as they try hard."
"First of all, they are not beasts," corrected Mia. She then went on, "They are rescues who need our help, and secondly, this is not about trying hard. This is about being patient and considerate. And something tells me that you were neither of the two things."
