Chapter 17 - Chapter 17: The Checkup

"Isn't your mother worried where you are?" Cassie asked as he glanced at Andrew who was finishing up with breakfast. "No, she knows that I'm at a friends house." He mused as he finished up with breakfast.

She adjusted herself as he put the meal on the table. Scrumptious as always as the two had it with no small talk. Afterwards, he was about to clean up when she took the initiative. "Don't bother yourself. I'll take care of it."

She picked up the plates and cups and shortly after, there was a knock. Given that she was occupied, he took the initiative to answer it. Opening it, a middle aged man dressed in vest exposing his flabby muscles and blue shorts. His height shorter than Andrew's with a grumpy look on his face.

He was at first perplexed before asking. "Is Cassie around?" His tone indifferent to Andrew's presence. "Yeah, she is. You're here for the rent, right. Here." He handed over the money to him. He gauged it as he counted it before taking his leave.

"Just make sure next time she pays on time." His tone disgruntled as he took his leave however Cassie was rater nervous to ask. "It was the landlord, wasn't it? Ugh! I still haven't made enough to money to pay last months rent and this month is coming to an end!"

Andrew calmly observed her tense up, agitated with the problem in her hands. "Don't worry, I paid it off, last month's and this month as well." Her face portraying her skeptism. "Wha- Why? I..." She was about to question his actions however she fell silent in the end.

"Don't you think that you should move out. I could help you." Cassie gave a look of contempt at Andrew. "You don't have to pity me like this. Taking care of me and all like a child." Her face pouty with her cheeks full. "If you say so but don't mind asking me for help if you need it."

He mused as he made his way to the couch and grabbed his coat. "Wait! You're leaving?!" His face flat as always. "Yeah. I have to head back to the clinic. As for my number, it's already in your phone." And with that, he took his leave.

She made her way to her phone and scrolling through it, there it was. 'He was snooping through my phone?! How did he figure out the password but at this point, I'm curious as to what he doesn't know!' She contemplated as to whether to get rid of it but in the end, she decided to ignore that and head to her job.

'And he restocked my shelves as well. He doesn't have to smother me this hard!' She mused as she looked at her shelves which were all full of various kinds of foods. As to when and why, such questions went unanswered in her mind.

...

After leaving Cassie's place, he made his way home to which he took a shower and switched his clothes before making his way to the clinic. 'Right on time.' He mused as he walked right through the door. Juliette brought out a cheeky smile on her face as she saw him.

"Sooo...how was it. Don't leave any details." Her eagerness evident. "It was okay to say the least." Her excitement was instantly extinguished with this response. "Oh come on Andrew, I know that there's more it than just okay." She urged to keep him going.

"She was having trouble with her life, we talked it out and called it a day." Juliette was still unsatisfied but she knew that he didn't want to focus on this matter for long. "Anyway, thanks for those labels but how did you know who would be coming and what they would need?"

He donned his white coat as he picked his mop. "Lucky guesses." Her face was neutral upon hearing this. "Okay Andrew, it's clear that you're hiding way too much from me. Your date, I understand that's personal but those prescriptions, that's just way too absurd."

"So come clean with it already." Andrew shifted his eyes from the mop to Juliette. "I have an ungodly foresight. Would you believe me if I told you that I can see into the future?" Juliette was now fed up with what was coming out of his mouth.

"Okay Andrew. You couldn't have come up with a better lie than that? 'See into the future.' Do you think I'm a child?" Her tone tired of what she thought were his antics. "That's the truth, if you don't believe me then what else will you take for an answer?"

He went back to his duty making Juliette fall silent. She gave a light sigh as she shifted her interest elsewhere. "Doctor Pascal should be coming in the day after tomorrow." Andrew gave a slight hum as he went on with his job.

The atmosphere fell silent before various people walked in with different ailments to be treated. Andrew was already done with his job thus with his foresight, he was able to know what to get even before she asked for it.

And because of this, they wouldn't waste that much time. However one of them, a lady who seemed shook spoke with Juliette for some time and after a while, she had to go to the back for a counseling.

"Look, if you have any problems, just ask me at the back, okay." Juliette urged as she left the counter. Leaving Andrew at the front to hold down the fort, he was able to execute his task with ease given for him, it felt like he was doing it for the billionth time once again.

The day flew before coming to a close. "I'm actually surprised that you were able to hold your own. Your making me wonder whether those classes were even worth it at this point." Juliette gave a lighthearted compliment to Andrew who carefully took of his coat.

"Thanks Juliette." 'She'll reject any compliment making her seem responsible for what I did so there's no need to bring it up.' Juliette and Andrew left the clinic together as the two made a small trip to the bus station. Andrew didn't need it but felt obligated to do it anyway.

'Chivalry, wasn't it?' He mused in his mind as he saw her figure hop on the bus and leaving the station. It wasn't long before he made his way back home to which his mother had already prepared dinner. After some small chat with her, he made his way to his room and hopped on his computer.

He checked up with his novel he had started to which he found that it had gained a lot attention to which enabled him to gain a contract. As for gaming, he decided to start a channel and hopped on the trendiest game that was on the platform.

[{Aether Star}]

'An rpg game with over million of players and such. It shouldn't be that difficult besides this is just a test project.' He didn't do this for the prospect of money or fane given he already had the former and the latter was an afterthought.

After playing for a couple of hours, he called it a night after uploading his video on YouTube. The following day was what he hated, banal and ordinary however he was able to survive it and the day after, he made his way to the clinic.

"You're here Andrew, Pascal is still not here yet." He was aware of this as he went on with his task like usual. The mind numbing repetition capable of driving one insane felt growing as the minute passed before Pascal made his arrival.

Carrying a suitcase around and a warm and calm air, his presence was easy to stand out in a crowd as he made his way to the counter. "Hello Juliette and Andrew." A muse talked with a smile. "Hello Doctor Pascal." The two answered back in unison.

"Please follow me Andrew." He urged as he made his way to the back. Following him, he took off his coat while Pascal put down his briefcase, urging him to take a seat as he prepared himself for the procedure.

"Okay Andrew, how's it going? I've heard that you've been helping Juliette around and I appreciate you for that." He started off with small talk, something Andrew was used to at this point. "It's been fine, Doctor Pascal." He responded flatly as his eyes followed Pascal's movements.

"I'm quite glad to hear that. Now let's get this started." He drew closer to Andrew, his hands gloved. Andrew took off his shirt leaving him with a vest as he already knew that he would request him to do so.

Pascal made few pricks on his skin with a small needle. "I don't feel it." Andrew mused to which he raised his hand in the air and glancing at his pits, no sign of sweat could be seen despite him earlier donning a heavy jumper at noon.

Pascal grabbed a small hammer as he lightly hit his knee however there were no reflexes whatsoever. "That should do it." He concluded to which Andrew put his shirt back on. "Your mother told me that you're engaging in a tournament. I don't think that you should participate."

'Yeah, I can get hurt I wouldn't even know it if that was the case for a regular person.' Sure he wouldn't feel it but he would know where it was, how, he would play it off as pure guessing. It wasn't concrete but he didn't care all that much whether they figured out what he was or not.

"I'll be cautious Doctor Pascal." He urged as he knew what would result from this. "You could face an internal injury and you wouldn't even feel it. By the time you realize that it's there, bit might be too late for you." Pascal urged on.

"I don't plan on getting hit, Pascal. I know it sounds improbable but you'll have to trust me." Pascal gave a desperated sigh. "Just because you're well built and can't feel pain mean that you can take on guys who have much more experience than you. It would be better to drops out."

He viewed Andrew as being arrogant and hot headed even though his tone was as calm as his. "Doctor, if I get hit even once then I'll withdraw from the match, okay?" Realizing how fine he was with this decision, he could only watch after all.

"Just be safe and good luck." And with that, Andrew wore his coat and helped Juliette till the day came to an end.
