"He is back!" Felicity said and rushed to the front door when she heard someone approaching the house. She found Maxwell already standing in front of the door, but why wasn't he moving out of the way. From where she was standing, she couldn't see Calhoun clearly, so she moved closer so she could speak to him, but she froze instantly in her tracks when she was finally in full view of the front door. Her eyes grew wide in complete shock as she stared at the scene before her. Maxwell was left in the same state as her. "Calhoun..." She breathed out his name in a low voice as her eyes travelled back and forth between him and what he was holding. She should have been shocked because of the state he was in, with his clothes completely torn and tattered, but what was more shocking was the girl Calhoun was holding in his arms. He was holding a girl! His hand firmly held onto her as Maxwell took multiple steps back to make way for Calhoun to walk into the house. Calhoun started to walk into the house and didn't even bother to explain what was happening to the two shocked people staring at him.
He walked slowly towards the stairs, and Maxwell turned to look at Felicity to be sure that he wasn't seeing things and she could see this also. Yes, he wasn't seeing things. She had the same shocked expression on her face. They both watched in silence as Calhoun walked up the stairs till he disappeared into the upstairs corridor. "What is going on?" Felicity finally found her voice to speak again. She turned to look at Maxwell, who was standing beside her now. "I have no idea. I opened the door, and there he was with her in his arms, " he explained, maxwell couldn't remember the last time he had ever been this shocked in his entire life. He had thought Calhoun had left to avoid everyone like he always did, but nothing could have prepared him for this. When he opened the door, he almost had a heart attack and thought he was dreaming or seeing things because it was dark outside. But no, it was real, and Calhoun was upstairs with her.
"Who do you think she is. No one dares to come to this side of the forest. everyone in town is scared of him and thinks he's some kind of beast." Felicity said. She thought it was irrational. Maybe if they had seen him as a child, they wouldn't think that way. He had been the sweetest soul ever.
"I don't think she came here willingly," Maxwell replied, Calhoun had left in a rush for a different reason than what he had concluded. He came back with a stranger.
Something was definitely going on, and Felicity was thinking the same thing. "Do you think!" She trailed off and gasped. "Could it be?!"
"I doubt that, if truly she is, he wouldn't have brought her back here. He would have rejected her the minute he set his eyes on her. " Maxwell said to Felicity, who was already leaving his side and walking quickly towards the stairs. She was too curious to know what was happening; what if it was truly his mate? Was the moon goddess finally listening to her prayers! Would things finally change? Would this new appearance soften him? If she was truly his mate, then she wasn't going to sit by and watch things go sideways. This was the time for her and Maxwell to step in.
"Wait! I don't think we should go up there right now!" Maxwell said in a loud whisper as he followed after her, but his words were what was only trying to stop her, not his actions because he too was curious.
Felicity walked hurriedly through the corridor. Her eyes searched for them. She stopped dead in her tracks when she finally found what she was searching for. The door to one of the rooms was wide open, and they were finally both in her sight. Maxwell arrived on time to see this, too. They watched in silence as Calhoun placed her gently on the bed and then turned to leave, but he stopped in his tracks and turned to look back at her. Their jaw dropped as they watched Calhoun covering the stranger with the sheets, even though he had an icy look in his eyes. Was this real! Felicity had to pinch her arm to make sure she wasn't dreaming. "I think she is," Maxwell said in a low, shocked voice, He was convinced now. They stood there in silence as he walked towards the room door. He stopped for a few seconds when he sighted the two nosy people who resided in his house before he continued his way out of his room. Felicity was about to ask all the questions in her mind as he walked past them, but Maxwell bit her to it. He quickly walked after Calhoun down the corridor before Calhoun disappeared back into his room. "Who is she? Is she your..." Maxwell trailed off when Calhoun stopped in his tracks. Calhoun turned to look at his butler. His eyes icy than ever. "Not anymore. Send her away when she wakes up, " He instructed in a low voice before he walked away and disappeared into the room. Felicity and Maxwell both stood in the corridor for almost a minute, trying to recover from the shocking events that happened within five minutes. Maxwell slowly turned to look at her. "What is happening." He muttered, and she shook her head because she was in the same state as him. She turned to look at the girl on the bed. "She is truly his mate," She blurted out. "He said not anymore," Maxwell replied as he walked down to where she was standing.
"Do you really think so. he wouldn't have brought her here if that was the case, Maxwell? he would have left her out in the woods, and even if he brought her here, do you think he would have covered her with the sheets." She said she knew how it felt to have a mate. It was the most compelling feeling ever. A force drawing two people together.
"He wants us to send her away," Maxwell said, believing Felicity's words. It just didn't make sense that Calhoun would act this way for a total stranger.
Felicity turned to look at the butler and smiled at him, a smile Maxwell knew all too well. "I think it's better we let her get some rest and see what happens tomorrow." She said and closed the door of the room slowly so she wouldn't disturb their guest...
