Chapter 21 - Attack from the Lemuria Guard

As the Pegasus stomped on the air in a most graceful motion that captivated the masses below, news of her arrival spread to all corners of the capital. Those people who knew that she was responsible for the recent massacre were shaken by her boldness and shamelessness. This could also be called fearlessness but no one considered this at this moment.

When the Premier heard the noise that filled the capital, he moved to his window and when he saw the Pegasus that were pulling carriages emblazoned with the emblem of the Draugr, the Premier felt like coughing up blood. This was totally unacceptable. He had only just finished coming up with a plan to deal with these evil things and yet they were now in his capital.

The Premier was about to order his guards to rush out and detain these Draugr for violation of the Dragon Capital's air space when he remembered that as the Night King, leader of all the Children of the Night, King Harald was not bound by most rules that governed the empire. This was because of his power and position. As Night King, King Harald was not just the ruler of the Children of the Night but also the representative of Nyx, the Goddess of the Night, on this mortal plane. With this kind of backing, even the Soul King had to give the Night King some face and this was why the Night King was above most of the laws of the empire. In fact, as long as he did not rebel against the Soul King or do anything to harm the empire, he could do anything else. Laws such as the one that stopped people from flying above the capital were far below the Night King and could not be used to detain him. As the princess and crown princess of the Draugr and the Children of the Night, Hildr also shared in some of these privileges.

The Premier could do nothing but grip his hands with so much force that he tore through his skin. As he was still seething with anger, he saw a squadron of the Lemuria Guard, moving to intercept the princess. He felt as though something truly terrible was about to happen. He wanted to rush out of his office through the window but this was impossible since this building was protected by all sorts of soul power. Even the windows could not be breached by the most powerful on the continent.

He began rushing through corridors, hoping to make it in time but even he knew that this was impossible. Since the Lemuria Guard was already moving, they had to have reached the carriages by now.

Above the capital, the Pegasus were blocked by fifty soldiers. These soldiers wore golden armour and carried long spears. They gave off an aura of invincibility. They were power of the most powerful army in the world. They were the Lemuria Guard.

When the people in the city saw these soldiers block the carriages, they remembered that this was indeed the capital and not just some capital belonging to some king of a domain but the Dragon Capital. Flying above the capital was considered as going against the empire by placing oneself above the Soul King. This was illegal and it was clearly explained at the city gates. The law was strictly enforced and no one was above the laws of the Soul King. This was what the ignorant thought but those with more understanding of imperial law understood that the Lemuria Guard were about to start a war with the Children of the Night.

The Pegasus gracefully came to a stop and remained calm. It was as though even these beasts understood that their master would deal with this trouble shortly.

"You are in violation of Imperial Law. You need to come with us in the name of justice for all. This is as per the will of the great and eternal Soul King," the captain of the battalion stepped forward and barked out. He used all his power to say these words. His voice naturally covered the entire capital and even those in the Argonaut Academy heard these words.

At this moment, the driver of the lead carriage that was being used by Hildr got off the carriage and opened the carriage door. Hildr got out and each move she made was the epitome of perfection. She floated in the air by manipulating the gravity around her. She flew and stopped a few feet away from the squadron. She looked at the leader and smiled warmly. No one could even imagine that this beautiful smile belonged to someone who had no problem killing thousands of people.

"I am afraid we have a misunderstanding," she said. The captain was not moved. He moved his spear into an attacking stance and his men followed suit.

"The laws are there to be followed. Not to be debated by the people," he said. He was ready to attack. At this moment, all the friendliness that had been on Hildr's face melted away. She looked at the captain and this time, she did not speak in a friendly manner. Even her aura changed. To the people below, she felt like a being that was meant to rule over all things with her words being the law of the land.

"I am not debating the law. Get out of my way or face death," her words did nothing to hide her killing intent. The captain was not about to take this lying down.

"Attack," he cried out. The guard that had come with Hildr were about to move when she raised her hand and stopped them. She understood that even though the law was on her side, this was still enemy territory. Getting in a fight on her first day would not help her cause at all.

Her eyes glowed slightly and the soldiers that had been rushing to attack her all came to a stop. They then turned around and began attacking each other. They were ferocious in their attacks and some of them died on the spot. The captain was the most powerful of them all and he showed this by efficiently slaughtering his men.

"The Beguiling Eye," someone cried out. This was a skill that all children of the night had but its power depended on how pure the person's bloodline was and how much soul they are able to control.
