Kenny knew he had to hurry; he had to talk to Zeres and decide on the appropriate thing to do. Knowing that his mother was part of the trap wasn't supposed to prevent them from giving it a try. Who knows? Maybe they will find the antidote. He wasn't sure if the antidote to the poison was at the Summer Palace. He wasn't sure what was awaiting him there, but he needed to try. Natasha's life was at stake and he couldn't take anything lightly.
With the bag of food in his hand, he dashed out of the house and hopped into his car, ready to speed his way to the office. He glanced at the clock on the dashboard; it was already 9 pm. He knew he was tired from pacing up and down; he needed some rest, but it wasn't the right time to rest. Everything needed him, the office, the mission, and he could waste even a single second.
As he pulled into the office parking lot, Kenny noticed the usual environment at that time. This wasn't the first time he had been going to the office at odd hours.. The entire building seemed deserted, with no sign of anyone inside. However, the lights were still on, illuminating the empty hallways and corridors. He couldn't help but admire the calm environment.
Just as he was about to step out of his car, a familiar face appeared by his side. It was the security guard who seemed unsurprised by Kenny's late-night arrival. With a friendly smile, he greeted Kenny, "Hey there, Boss. Another late night at the office, huh?" This security guard was a very close friend of Kenny. He was an old man who had worked at the company as a security guard for many years. Despite the fact that everyone feared Kenny, this guard was an exception, since he could talk to him the way he wanted, and Kenny had long been used to his jokes.
Kenny nodded, grateful for the guard's understanding. "Yeah, it seems to be a habit for me now. "
The security guard chuckled, his voice loud in the empty hallway. "Oh.. you are like a ghost around here after regular working hours. You're practically our only visitor, Boss," he said jokingly.
As Kenny walked through the entrance, he could hear whispers from the guards discussing him and his weird working hours. "Did you hear? The boss is here again. I wonder if he even has a wife. No wonder he is still single."
Kenny couldn't help but chuckle at their discussion. He turned to face them with a mischievous grin. "Who needs a wife when I have this office to keep me company, right?"
The security guards laughed, their eyes widening in surprise as Kenny caught them off guard with his funny response. With a playful wink, Kenny headed towards the elevator, holding the bag of food tightly in his hand.
Inside the elevator, Kenny took a moment to catch his breath. He pulled out his phone and dialed Kata's number. When Kata answered the call, Kenny asked, "Hey, Kata, I'm at the office. Is there any chance you could come in?"
Kata's tired voice came through the phone, "At what time, Boss?..do you mean now?" he asked.
"Yes, now, I need your help with something."
"Boss...."
Kenny grinned, knowing he was pushing for this. "Come on, Kata, you know you can't resist the addition of an extra one-month salary.. Besides, who needs sleep, right?"
Kata let out a mock sigh. "Fine, I'll be there soon." He put the phone aside. Kata was so busy with office work that she didn't even have time to woo women. He was so single and he couldn't even have a woman for himself, all thanks to his boss, who was always keeping him busy. Kenny ended the call and waited for Kata.
On the other hand, Kata quickly changed into his formal attire, wanting to appear professional despite the late hour. Once he was ready, he got into his car and drove back to the office, eager to hear the kind of help that his boss wanted.
As Kenny stepped into his office, he glanced at the clock on the wall. It was already past 10 pm. He couldn't help but wonder if Kata would make it on time. Just as the thought crossed his mind, he heard a knock on the door.
Kenny opened the door to find Kata standing there, hands on hips. "You owe me big time for this, Boss. What on earth could be so important at this hour?"
Kenny motioned for Kata to enter, chuckling. "Oh, you know, I need your help, it's just a quick one. Take this to the lab, I hope to get the results as soon as possible," Kenny spoke as he handed the bag of food to Kata.
Kata received the bag, and he clearly understood what he was supposed to do. Kenny had asked him a couple of times to take food samples to the laboratory for testing. If he wasn't wrong, it was the food that his mother had been sending over to him when he was in the office.
He could guess that the relationship between Kenny and his mother wasn't normal, but no one could tell. She had been sending the food over to him for a very long time, but Kenny had never tasted the food even once.
"Okay, boss, I'll do it right away. Anything else?" Kata asked.
Kenny smiled," Nothing more, and you can take your bonus and a day off tomorrow."
"Are you sure, boss?"
"You still want to come to work tomorrow? Okay, no off day for you."
"Am sorry, Boss..thanks...thank you very much," Kata said as he ran out of the office. He had just gotten a day off and he didn't want his boss to change his mind and ask him to report to work the following day.
